Most people fear public speaking more than death and I fear job interviews more than public speaking! I recently moved to a new town and this is the first job interview I've had to go on in more than six years. They didn't post many of the particulars in the description, but it looks like such a nice place to work for the summer season. I'll find out more at the interview, but right now I'm trying not to think of that episode of Cheers where Norm was a shoo-in for his dream job and Rebecca jinxed him when she described how she used to freak out during interviews.

It's easier said than done, especially in this market, but just remember: You should be interviewing THEM just as much, if not more so. You've gotten an interview, so you obviously have the qualifications to fill a need they have just as they have the paycheck to fill the need you have. They should tell you why you should want to work for them just as much as you should have to sell yourself to them. It's a two-way street and it helps bolster your confidence/assertiveness. It will also help you think of more discerning questions to ask of your interviewer(s). Good luck!

Did you hear anything back from your interview?

I was the first person they interviewed - the Ad was in the paper on Sunday the 11th - this was last Wednesday, the 14th. I was there for 2 hours; after, they asked for my references.

I was supposed to hear back from them by yesterday and I haven't.

They told me that if I didn't hear from them by Monday afternoon, please call them - they would DEFINITELY be getting back to me.
So, I called & got VM - I left a msg at 4:30.

I got the impression that they needed someone for this job ASAP - so, now I'm all confused.
What should I do?

If you don't hear from them today, I'd call them back again tomorrow. If you still don't get to talk to a live person tomorrow, unfortunately it won't seem too promising. Good luck to you & Sherri as well.

Totally agree, Matty, but any good interviewer is going to kickstart the interview with job/company description/requirements, pay, benefits...etc.
This gives the interviewee time to relax and ask questions about the information provided/left out!! It also helps the interviewee tailor his/her answers about him/herself to your particular needs. Definitely, find out what you want to know!!

I LOVED CHEERS! I remember that episode. As some have said here interviews are a two-way street, therefore, make sure to ask about them as well. Inquire about things that are important to you, things you want from an employer, you know. All I can say is good luck to you, my dear. MBPL

The interviewers were both women, so I don't think that would have gone over very well!

That does remind me of the worst interview I ever did though. It was about 6 years ago and I had already accepted another job, but the interviewer had a trainee and asked if I wanted to come in just for the practice of being interviewed. I thought that was a great idea and that it would be pretty easy since there was no job at stake. Not true! I was still nervous and the interviewer had a blouse with these buttons that looked like they were on the verge of popping open! I started getting nervous and I swear at one point I was babbling - like if I just talk faster the interview will be over that much faster. It was all I could do not to look at the buttons and of course the more you try not to look at something... I'm sure the interviewer thought I was some kind of perv staring at her chest most of the interview! I hate interviews, but I figured they couldn't get worse than that one! Today's went much better!

While I was still nervous (I don't know why - I guess it's like going on a blind date and wondering if you're going to like the person or get rejected), I think it went fairly well! I didn't babble and I made a few good points, so now I can laugh about the last interview 6 years ago. It looks like a very nice place to work and the people are great, so if I do get it I think it will be a positive experience! It is a seasonal position, but right now that works fine for me. A funny thing happened afterward...

I went downtown and decided to treat myself. While I was at a store buying some chocolate , I mentioned that I had just had a job interview. The lady who owned the store told me about someone she knew who has an investment firm and had recently mentioned she was looking to hire someone to help in her office. Since I was still in my interview outfit, I drove up there and dropped off a resume right away! The lady was busy on the phone, but she saw me come in and I'm going to follow up tomorrow now that she's had time to look at my resume. I didn't want to ambush her or be pushy. But that was a lead I wasn't expecting and since I'm taking courses for my accounting degree, working in finance would be great experience. If it weren't for the interview I had today, I wouldn't have known about it, so I felt pretty good about the day as a whole.
