Spend about an hour and a half typing out / arranging Song Lyrics for the "Catch The Storm" Liner Notes.

Gonna watch me some Baseball with Mark.
I swear....back in the late 90s, if somebody told me:

 "Nora ~ in 2010, you're gonna be Married and hanging out with your Husband watching BASEBALL on a Friday night...."

I'd say, "Yer smokin' CRACK!!"

Will be loading up my kayak on the ol' jeep^ and going to a reservoir about 50 miles from me that I haven't been to yet, tomorrow, maybe do some paddling somewhere else Sunday, too. :) Along the way I'll be on the lookout for some TX wildflowers and any scenic spot to photograph to maybe use as a reference to paint or draw. Hopefully I'll run across a big field of Bluebonnets somewhere, if there are still some in bloom. Enjoy your weekend, y'all! :)

I tan because it's healthy and makes me feel good. Vitamin D (it's not really a vitamin), is essential for the expression of over 10% of your genome and it's extremely important in fighting off cancer (colon, ovarian, pancreas and breast for example). Around 80 % of Americans is estimated to have a vitamin D deficiency, which is associated with awesome stuff like cancer, rickets, autism, heart disease, osteoporosis and autoimmune diseases.

Using information from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey a group of researchers concluded that having low levels of vitamin D (<17.8 ng/ml) was independently associated with an increase in all-cause mortality in the general population.

Suck on that.

you're full of crap. YES we need sun for vitamin D. No we do not need to tan. I live in Florida and my incidental sun I receive is plenty. From what I've read 15 min a day or so is plenty of sun. They never tell you to "tan" yourself when you are getting your sunlight. The incidence of skin cancer in Florida is pretty big. Plus I don't want to look 70 when I'm 50 ;) you're still young, so I'll give you a pass on this one. But you will regret it someday when those wrinkles kick in. Oh, but on a guy they are distinguished I bet

Everything I just wrote is fact. You don't know what you're talking about that. If you use more than sun factor 8 ->, then you won't get any vitamin D at all. I'm sure you know a lot about doing the dishes and doing your nails, but the stuff I just stated is a fact. I'll explain it to you in detail if you think you'd understand. I got the same skin as my father, so I'm gonna look even better the older I get.

You are SO full of it (and yourself ;) ) Who is your source?? Tanning beds r us???

Here, from the NIH (national institute of health) one of MANY places you can find this info on vitamin D... I will provide the link too:

approximately 5-30 minutes of sun exposure between 10 AM and 3 PM at least twice a week to the face, arms, legs, or back without sunscreen usually lead to sufficient vitamin D synthesis and that the moderate use of commercial tanning beds that emit 2%-6% UVB radiation is also effective [10,33]. Individuals with limited sun exposure need to include good sources of vitamin D in their diet or take a supplement.

Despite the importance of the sun to vitamin D synthesis, it is prudent to limit exposure of skin to sunlight [36] and UV radiation from tanning beds [37]. UV radiation is a carcinogen responsible for most of the estimated 1.5 million skin cancers and the 8,000 deaths due to metastatic melanoma that occur annually in the United States [36]. Lifetime cumulative UV damage to skin is also largely responsible for some age-associated dryness and other cosmetic changes. It is not known whether a desirable level of regular sun exposure exists that imposes no (or minimal) risk of skin cancer over time. The American Academy of Dermatology advises that photoprotective measures be taken, including the use of sunscreen, whenever one is exposed to the sun [38].

There is ample evidence that the death rate in elderly patients increases in winter months. In a recent study of seasonal mortality in terminal cancer patients in the United States, it was found that compared to those patients who died during June, July, and August, the number of deaths of patients increased an average of 20% in January, February, and March. This near-sinusoidal pattern was remarkably consistent over a five year period.

A recent study in the February 2, 2005 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute looked at markers of sun exposure in more than 500 people who had recently been diagnosed with malignant melanoma. The researchers found that solar elastosis, or sun damage to the skin, was independently associated with a surprising increased survival from melanoma.[41]

If confirmed, the results of this study suggest that whereas excessive sun exposure leads to the development of melanoma, sun exposure may protect against the progression of melanoma into more fatal disease.

The molecular basis for thinking vitamin D has the potential to prevent cancer lies in its role in a wide range of cellular mechanisms central to the development of cancer

I can just go on and on and on. Honestly, Lynn. You don't know what you're talking about. The positive sides of being in the sun far outweighs any negative aspect of it, as long as it's done properly. There's no winning here - I got all the facts on my side. What's next? You gonna start saying that running with sneakers is good for you?

She's not disputing the facts about Vitamin D. Yes you need sun
exposure to synthesize it, you do NOT however have to TAN to
do that.

Tan skin= COOKED skin. Fact.

Wait... Are you a nurse?

Tanning is basically sun exposure, but done in a controlled manner. Come on, use your common sense. You got to get sun exposure to get your fix of vitamin D. Sun exposure = tanning.

No, tanning is not basic sun exposure and there is question as to whether 30 min without sunscreen could increase your skin cancer risks. So it's better to get the minimum than to go for that "healthy but I'll look like I have leather for skin when Im 50" look.

You grew up in a country that has sunlight probably 1% of the year. We laugh at people like you who come to disney world looking like ghosts who have red paint streaked on them from their lack of realization their skin can't handle the florida sun WITHOUT sunscreen. You can ALWAYS point out the Europeans, and no not just from their funny clothes and shoes   I have lived 20 years in the sunshine state. I think my vitamin D will be just fine minus the skin cancer risk and old lady skin :P

Having family in France, and LIVING in the arctic are two different things. Bodies adjust and the darkest of people can become pale there. I wasn't born yesterday ya know. And I am half Italian, so I have a natural bronze that gets darker in the sun WITH sunscreen. 50 SPF too. Since I've lived here I really don't get pale. My whole point with this was that you HAVE to limit your exposure without sunscreen. Facts are on my side with that. You are talking about a completely different thing when you are concerned with bronzing your body and keeping it that way. And I BET the jury is still out on your dad and his skin. Is your dad even old enough to see the damage yet? I see those leather skinned lizard people at the beach. The ones who are 60 and look 80. NO THANKS!!!!!!!
