Who Hates Mechanics???

Postby Everett » Wed May 05, 2010 1:55 am

Looks like i need new front & back brakes for our '03 buick century. I've talked to a few places and it seems i can get them for around $300-$500 bucks. That includes parts and labor. So does anyone else hate mechanics as much as i do? fuckin crooks

brakes are one of the easiest things to replace on a car.

yet another dumb thread and another dumb statement.....

Just like any business there are good and bad mechanichs,,, those who treat you right and fix things for a reasonable price and those who fuck you in the ass , which in both cases, YOU should be happy ....

Just like scarab suggested, sometimes its better to learn to do things yourself and save a little bit,,,,, hell, if you wouldve shared hotelroom/wrestling moves with him , he wouldve helped you out, Im sure...

Let me guess TNB, you're the same person who bitches about a bank charging you overdraft fees or a salesman giving you the shaft because you were too dumb and/or too timid to assert yourself.

The market helps those who help themselves. Arm yourself with information, grow a pair of balls, and negotiate with the guy if you think you're getting hosed. Ask tough questions.

I have no sympathy for those who don't help themselves in these situations. None.

I've talked to a few other places and it looks like i can buy the parts and have a friend put them on for cheap. I should've thought of that first.

When hurricane Ike blew through here, it took half of my backyard fence along with it. My neighbor, the dirtbag, couldn't afford to come up with his half to replace it. So we worked out a deal for him to do the labor for replacing the brakes and master cylinder on my MR2 for the equivalent of the $100 he was ultimately short for the fence (I supplied the parts). A week later, my parts were sitting on my front porch in the rain with a note attached to them stating that he was busy and wasn't sure if he'd be able to get to them. I'll be putting my house on the market in a week or two. When it finally sells, I'm extremely tempted to cut out an 8-foot section of the fence and take it with me. I'd leave a note for the new owners to get the money from my neighbor to replace the section. I probably won't do it simply because I'd be screwing over the new owners.

As with any repair people, there's both good and bad. If you're leary, educate yourself before going to a replair place of any kind so you know the right questions to ask. Appearing knowledgable, most shady places may not try to pull one over on you. If all else fails, get yourself a Haynes Manual for the damn car and do it yourself.

That's something I've never heard before! Dude, if spoiled means that I got a well educated and successful family, then yeah. That's not something I can do anything about it. At least I don't judge people based on their fucking economy.

Your job could consist of collecting spunk from horses, and I still wouldn't care. But you, my friend; are a whiny little princess and you're full of shit. Fix it.

Good points stevew. TNB, dude, firstly, i highly doubt you need your rear drums turned. I am guessing that a 2003 Century has 4 wheel discs. As for the front brakes, you probably just need pads, and like scarab said, it's so easy Stevie Wonder could show you how to do it. Seriously, scarab was right- change out the pads on the front end, for 25 bucks or so. Rotate the tires...being that they're radials, you rotate straight back...right front to rear right and same on the left side. Do yourself a favour and buy yourself a Haynes manual. It can really be a useful book. Talks you right through the procedure.
