Get the fucking TV out. The bedroom is only for two things....love and sleep!
Do you understand that when you do not sleep in total dark / silence you are programming your subconscious mind?

100% proper sleep means stopping all programming.

Yeah, I agree with this. I also need everything to be turned off when going to bed. In our house, my wife also pulls out all the cords from the walls to appliances we are not using no matter if it is night or day, if it's not being used, it's turned off and disconnected from the wall, with the only exception being the bedroom alarm clock, refrigerator and stove. Other then those three things, everything is pulled out of the wall. It's a "Japanese" thing I'm sure because I've seen many people in Japan doing this same thing. It works for me, so we do that and it makes her happy.

The first time I seen her do this was in the apartment we started to share in Yokohama in 1988. It tripped me out for a little while but I seemed to have really gotten used to it to the point where I also pull shit out of the wall if it's not being used.

And we've never had a tv in our bedroom, it's always been out in the living room of every place we've always lived.

I have to have a fan running all year long. I don't know if it is the sound, or the moving air. And lately I need Tylenol PM, or nyquil to sleep....TV...not so much.

i have two fans running all night because the fan sound helps me sleep.been doing it for years.i started working nights a decade ago and originally did it to block out noise during the day.i've gotten so used to it even though i don't work nights anymore i still need 'em to sleep.

Lately, I've been sleeping with ear plugs in my ears. It helps tremendously! I have had insomnia and sleep problems all my life and using ear plugs, along with Melatonin and Valerian Root has really helped!!

I use earplugs, a sleepmask and STILL need the little waterfall running in the backround for white noise.

I have an app on my Droid phone called "Sleepy Time" that I use on occasion as well. It has recordings of white noise sounds such as ocean waves, waterfalls, babbling Brooks, birds singing, fans running, thunderstorms, and various other sounds.

Sometimes they help me fall asleep, other times they are just plain annoying!

We watch TV until we get sleepy then we turn it off. Then I usually pop the earplugs in to stay asleep. (I'm a light sleeper) Also keeps my other half's snoring from waking me.

I usually set the sleep timer and fall asleep to the TV. Absolutely nothing wrong with having the TV on while you sleep. I've slept with it on my entire life and have never had sleep problems or felt tired any more than your average person.

All of my family members including Aunts, Uncles and Cousins do this.
After 19 years Hubby Bub still complains about it.
I must have a fan on when falling asleep, even bring one in the tent when camping. :D

Can't sleep with someone who steals the covers. Even if I'm exhausted, even once I warm up again, I just can't get back to sleep if I wake up from the cold.

I just can't do ear plugs for some reason. LOL, awake or asleep. A friend gave me some to wear when we were right smack up front at the JSSB Coach House show (by the speakers) and I tried to wear them but I just couldn't, it sounded like I was in a tunnel or something, I hated it. Oh well, if I go deaf from great Rock, so be it.

I have no problem sleeping most of the time. Just dark and quiet does the trick. I am a light sleeper too, if I wake up early and the room is light I CANNOT get back to sleep.

Me too. Had a fan going since I was five. My dad did too. Now my kids all do. My first fan was an antique and if you did not keep it oiled, it wouldn't start. I remember a few nights rummaging around our house looking for the oil. I also remember stressing when I'd spend the night at a friend's house. Laying there in dead silence, knowing I was never going to get to sleep.

I travel alot and now hotels are going green and have A/C units that will not allow you to run the "fan only." That sucks big time. The fan running, stopping and clicking on again is the pits.

Yeah, dude.. same here. My girl hates it but has to put up with it because I don't get ONE OUNCE of sleep without my fan. My ceiling fan had a part come off recently and I had to go out and buy one of those cheap twirling ones but it gets the job done. Sound has a major part to do with it, as well as keeping cool. I also need to have a blanket over top of me, even if it's 90 degrees out.

years back me and my father were working a construction job and he was always taking vitamins.anyway he handed me some of those valerian when we were leaving work and i asked him if he had them stashed in his sweaty socks all day, lol.he had to convince me that was the natural smell because i couldn't understand why they had that scent.

The only time I have a hard time sleeping is when my wife and I are sleeping apart, like when she is in Japan visiting her family and I'm left back here in America. Funny thing is, when I sleep alone during those times, I sleep with my head towards the East and my feet towards the West, but when she is here, we sleep together with our heads towards the North and our feet towards the South. I can't explain why the direction I sleep depends on if I'm alone or with her. Our bed is a Japanese 7' x 7' platform bed so I can basically lay in any direction I wish and not be at the edge of it at any side or corner.

I've had trouble sleeping in the past and some of the things that have partially and/or completely remedied the issue was:

1) Getting up and brushing my teeth and then laying back down.
2) Laying on top of the comforter until I get very cold and then get back under the covers.
and this one has worked the best -
3) Switching my body direction around, meaning if I'm laying with my head to the West and my feet to the East, I switch around and have my head to the East and my feet to the West.

So maybe try some of these techniques if your having a hard time getting to sleep at night. They work for me.
