RIP - Ronnie James Dio

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Mon May 17, 2010 5:10 am

This was just posted by his wife:

Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May.
Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes
before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he
was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have
all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this
terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever. Wendy

I don't know how to delete or close the other thread that I started earlier this morning on the rumor.

Cancer's just a son of a bitch... I'd be willing to bet that at minimum, every single poster here has been touched by cancer within their respective families.... and for the lucky few who haven't had a family member be afflicted, I'd almost be willing to bet at minimum you know a close friend or friend's family member to be so afflicted.

Grandfather on one side passed from lung cancer and my grandmother on the other died of breast cancer in her mid 50s. My aunt on that side also got breast cancer at the ripe old age of 48, but thankfully beat it two years ago and seems to be in great shape.

Just a shitty, shitty disease. Fuck cancer.

Best wishes to Dio and family. That was one fucker who could still bring it just like he did way back in the day. Go figure, cancer always seems to cut people down before their primes are over.

one of my earliest memories of listening to ronnie james dio: in my high school creative writing class, the teacher asked us to bring in our favorite albums, so we could listen to & discuss the lyrics. i brought in black sabbath's heaven & hell, which the teacher actually played in class! she was the coolest teacher ever. none of the students in that class were into music, much less heavy metal. the looks of confusion on their faces were priceless!

RIP ronnie james dio - long live rock & roll

Greatest metal voice EVER...he sounded as good with Heaven and Hell as he did the first time he was with Black Sabbath...amazing he could do that in his late 60's...

Rest in Peace Ronnie.

Agreed, brother. One of my buddies who saw him with Heaven and Hell two years ago, said that seeing Dio throw the metal horns in concert was akin to seeing John Hancock sign his name!

Tremedous showman- great voice. Gone too damned soon.

Just heard the news about Dio. Shit, I was hoping he would recover and entertain us once more. One of the greatest metal voices of all time. I was looking forward to him singing into his 80's. RIP Ronnie.

RIP Ronnie. You are one of the best. I know Saint John agrees with me when I say we lost a GREAT guy. :(
I'm thinking even with all this sadness , there is one guy smiling above ,,,Jimi Fucking Hendrix just got his singer and they're jamming all nite with Phyl Lynnot. Rock On Dio. You will be missed.
