Craigslist is FULL of assholes!!!

Just had to share with you what I've been going through with some people from Craigslist. I'm selling one of my keyboards, and I've posted an ad for it 3 times over the last few months. Each time I do, I get emails from some scamming assholes! They always send something like "is the item still available". I respond with "Yes it is available. Do you have any questions regarding the item that I can answer?". This is what I get today in response...

Hello,

Thanks for the swift response, just to let you know that am okay with
the condition and price of the item, am ready for its purchase and my
form of payment..I will be by sending you certified Check via UPS next
day delivery. Pls take the item off craigslist so no other buyer can
ask about it.I'll be responsible for the pick-up and the pick up
money will be included in your payment to avoid delay and to enable
pick up company to schedule an appropriate time for the pick-up at
your location after check has been cashed,as i have other properties
to be moved along side with yours. I would have really love to come
for the viewing but due to my work frame that might not be
possible, but if you have the pics,i might want to have a good
look. Please do get back to me with your full name and address and Zip
code including your cell number so i can make out the payment.
Regards

Do I have "Dumbass" stamped on my forehead?  Sure buddy... I'll give you the name of my first born, as well as my social security number and driver's license... just in case you need those too!

Besides all the mumbo jumbo this dude wrote, I don't think it's too out of the ordinary for the information he's requesting seeings how he wants to write you a personal check with your name as the payee on it and your address to send the check to. You do need a person's full name and address for these reasons.

You may want to keep the pitbull around a little while longer, just so if the guy does come around to pick up the item, he will think you got a dog capable of removing human limbs at will. That should be an affective deterant.

The one thing I would freak out about though is if the dude said he'd send you a check for a few thousand dollars more then your item and have you send him the item and the change in cash back.

There was a couple that had an ad on Craigslist recently and gave their address to meet. The husband was murdered, wife injured. Sad.

Jim - this is not just annoying, it's a text-book scam, as you have said. The wording of the would-be buyer's response is almost always the same. And I guarantee you the cheque is no good - they ask people to cash them, keep a little extra for their 'troubles' and send the excess back. And then the cheque is returned to your bank as counterfeit and you are out the money. Trust me - I deal with several of these in a month. The best thing to do with these guys is completely and totally ignore them - just delete the emails. I can't believe how many people still get taken in by this and get indignant when we won't cash the 'cheque' they get for payment.

Don't answer those e-mails. Check the return e-mail before replying. If it looks like: dfggkjdtyjcg-4582@gmail.com or something similar, it's 99.99% a scam. Look for an e-mail that makes sense AND, in your listing tell any potential responder that you expect a contact phone number and name or you will not respond. Before you do respond, check the phone number on switchboard.com

Jim, I tried selling a toshiba hd dvd player on craigslist. It was brand new, i got it when they decided to close shop on making these anymore, a $300 machine but i also had a hdmi cable and 8 movies 6 of which i had not opened yet and i was looking for $ 90. I researched the web to see what people were asking and i was well below the price of what everyone else wanted for their used machines.

I get a message from some guy saying "keep the movies and the cables, i'll give you $20 for the player" so i calmly sent this message back to him, "I'm sorry miss, but this item you are interested in is being sold in the United States ,not mexico."

He replied back............You got me, LOL.......I sold the player a couple weeks later and got what i asked for it.
