John 5 on Van Halen: “They are writing right now at 5150. Eddie is on fire.”
Friday, 28 May 2010

Shredding mastermind John 5 recently joined the Hard Rock Nights radio program to talk about his new solo record, The Art Of Malice, and working with Rob Zombie, David Lee Roth, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rob Halford, Lita Ford, etc.

John talks about working with David Lee Roth on his DLR Band CD at 1:59 into the interview. Then at 5:06 they ask him about Eddie…

Q: “Now Dave, of course, is back in Van Halen, last we heard…”

A: “Yes.”

Q: “Have you met Eddie? Have you gotten to sit down and talk with him any?”

A: “Oh yeah me and Eddie are good friends. He’s a great guy, you know, he’s doing great, playing great and looks great. He’s on fire right now. They’re writing right now, at Eddie’s place - at 5150 - and he is on fire right now.”

Believe it when I see it but J5 is absolutely a house aflame on the new Zombie.

No Anthony=no VH.

DLR is actually allowed in Eddie's studio? Wow.

I hate to say this, but I told you so.

Dave has recorded three albums and solo toured twice since Edward last recorded a record. Laziness is Ed's problem, not Dave's.

I think J5 is a great player, but that fantastic playing is not much in evidence in the latest Zombie epic. I bought it sight unseen when it came out, and have only spun it 3 or 4 times. I felt it only had like 2 or 3 great songs. J5 held back on the album... I know he's capable of much more. I don't think it will sell a lot of copies.

Is anyone else as sick as I am about hearing all this VH crap? They were the first band I got into back in '83, and all I thought back then (and for a long time after) was the were rock gods.

Now, here we are some 27 years later, and they are like toddlers in a crying room that can't ever play nice.

Ed is always "on fire" except when he is on tour, or when ya hear anything new. I hope as much as anybody its smokin, but too many disappointments in the past.

All this because Ed has cranked out one CD in the past 15 years! Where's the love?

Anyone read that Ed's new wife has stated that the band making the new album are just rumors?

What I find funny is that it's Eddie's wife who announces that kind of stuff and not Eddie himself. Who is wearing the pants in the that family

Ed is too busy burying Blue Ribbons and watching porn in the basement to address any "rumors".

At least last year Chickenfoot gave me a kick a@$ record that filled that void....this year is tougher!

There will be another Chickenfoot album before we hear a peep from Van Halen. Pretty psyched about CF tho...the first album was solid, and a lot of fun, but with that behind them I expect the second one to be even better now that they've had a chance to really gel as a live band.

Alright, now I won't be able to sleep.

I hope it's TT. I'm so fucking pumped for this record.

I went to the opening show in September of 2007...unreal. I think I added ten years to my life that night.

Greatest. Band. Ever.

More than 10 years seven!...Just hearing Anthony harmonizing again with Sammy...

THey played "Learning to Fall" and hearing them all work together, was like stepping back 25 years to 5150 baby!....

I really have to thank them for that...a feeling on a hot summer night I never thought I'd have again....

As a fan since '86 (most because of hagar joining), I cant beleive how happy I am that theres new VH coming. I know its not the same without mike, but the hell cares, this is Eddie VH and hes back. I doubt hes going to let us down on this one.

Funny, I was the opposite. I followed them with Dave, got a little concerned with all the covers on Diver Down, a bit more worried with the pop direction on 1984 and totally fell off the wagon when Sammy came a board. I like Hagar but he wasn't what I wanted from Van Halen. In my way of thinking they went from being The coolest rock band around to becoming Journey on Steroids.
