Wow....definitely like the second one better. Although I'm not blown away with either tune. I've Always been a fan of Neil's lyrics...but not always a lover of the direction or style they've taken. Counterparts, Vapor Trails, and Snakes & Arrows left me scratching my head....while T4E, Roll the Bones, and Presto are the ones I revisit most often....I'm a fan who likes the deep cuts. I remember before S&A came out they played 25 sec. Or so teaser clip from 'Far Cry'. It was all instrumental...and the last note was something you would have heard on Hemispheres, Cygnus x-1, or 2112. And fans were creaming in their pants saying 'Rush is back to the classic style!!' When the album finally dropped it was such a disappointment...

There's a bit of a Cygnus riff in Caravan...

I don't know - I'm digging Caravan. It'll be interesting to see how it goes over live...

Both vids from those links are gone now due to copyright violations... shoot!

I think the last Rush album I really enjoyed was Counterparts, and I LOVE that album. Most of their albums since then have been pretty boring and not very melodic to me, and that's a shame since they were always one of my favorite bands. I'll get this one regardless. :)

I really liked Counterparts...Still do....But VT and S&A left me feeling a bit empty.

I actually really like S&A, and the songs from VT go over very well live. The production on that album was horrible, though, as has been well documented...

I agree on both accounts with DNA. Although I'd say I liked S&A, not "really liked." 8)

A matter of degrees, then... :)

I was happy with the instrumentals...

That's interesting because I thought from the first time I popped it in it was way too muddy and bassy, but never saw any other opinions about it. I need to look that up. Still love the first song and especially "Earthshine" - that one really has the classic Rush sound.

O yea, VT is MUCH maligned amongst Rush fans. Check any forum where Rush or prog rock is discussed and I'm sure you can find several threads about the shitty production.
