You gotta see the replay of what should have been a 3rd out to make a perfect game for Gallaraga. Ump just stole a perfect game from this poor guy with a terrible call. Even the radio announcers in Cleveland we're going nuts about how wrong it was.

Jim Joyce after the game:
'I just cost that kid a perfect game'
'That was the biggest call of my career and I kicked the shit out of it!'

I just read where Fay Vincent went back into the record books and threw out 50 no-hitters during his tenor as commissioner. Obviously the precedent has been set so Selig could fix this wrong if he wanted to.

I'd have to say it is too late...kid got robbed of the immediate celebration....no point now. I will say, however, that the kid was nothing but class in his post-game interview....

Yeah, that'd be about as useful as your long-time teenage lover telling you she would have married you ... meanwhile, she's married to another chump with 3 kids and a 4th on the way.
It's all about the moment. There'd be no magic in a retroactive perfect game for Gallaraga, his teammates, or perhaps just as importantly, the fans that were there.

No magic but he would have his name in the HOF on the list for perfect games. People's memories fade but at least his accomplishment would be recognized by BaseBall.

I mean it wouldn't be a bad thing, but it would still suck. Any sports stuff I won/awards I got was always so much better in the moment. Oh well. Just sucks for the guy.
EDIT: Looks like Selig won't overturn call. Just broke

Of course, you can't put the toothpaste back into the tube but at least don't throw it all away.

Still, it will be the most famous "one-hitter" ever...

I don't understand why he even said he'd review it if this is the outcome. The call is as clear as day, so his mind had to be made up. He might as well have just said "It was an unfortunate incident, but we will not look into it because blah blah blah and we will be looking into extending the use of replay to situations like these."
Major League Baseball is such a joke its almost sad. America's pastime, yea right. Just cuz it appeals to fat people who like to pound chili dogs and beer 7 days a week.

Selig could have fixed this. Come on dude you all ready screwed up the all star game, what's wrong with rectifying a wrong. The scorekeeper has 24 hours to determine if something is a hit or an error, I don't see why a similar correction can't be made here.
What Fay Vincent did by changing the rules regarding no hitters was retro active to the point of erasing 50 names from the record book. Where was the integrity in that?
