a few random suggestions for you, if you're going to san francisco.

FLOWERS
Be sure to wear them in your hair.

CABLE CARS
Either get on the Cable Car or get on the sidewalk. Dawdling in the street will get your ass run over.

While on the sidewalk, waiting for a Cable Car, don't block the entire width of the sidewalk with your brood. I've lost count of how many times I've either had to walk out onto the street or ask people to move, so i could pass through.

Remember that this is not an amusement park ride. Do not go, "WOOOOOO!!!" when you come around a curve. It makes you look like a stupid American tourist. I notice that Europeans are more polite & don't do this. A worse offense than "WOOOOOO!!!" is singing Xmas carols. Don't. Do. It.

DIRECTIONS
If you whip out a map & a little asian girl suddenly shows up & says, "Are you lost? Do you need directions?" That's probably me.

UNION SQUARE
Enjoy the free wi-fi.

OTHER
Don't pee in my doorway.

I enjoyed the city during the day, but I have never seen a bigger freak show at night! I had to open the hotel window and scream "SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!" to some stupid bitch on a bull horn who I believe may have been organizing homeless people to form a line (for what I don't know) ... at 4 am. The Golden Gate Bridge is overrated, but I really liked the city's other bridge. I looked for your house ... no luck.

Definitely an interesting city - Great shows are always coming to town - I live in East Bay which is pretty suburban compared to downtown, but just a really cool place...has it's problems tho. Don't know if I would ever live downtown, but maybe if I picked up a job there. Killer Indian food (Shalamar...incredible)

SF is just way too crowded for me... and that's saying something coming from someone who lives in the city of Los Angeles. I do like how there aren't really any bullshit red curbs in SF... although it comes as a consequence of there being no parking lots whatsoever, so there's that.

It was a blue looking hotel that had a nautical theme. We were on the 8th or 9th floor and we really liked the place. As for exactly where it was, I have no idea. I went and checked my hotels.com history, but I didn't create the account until after we went to SF.

2. Is Alcatraz still open to tourists. LOL, I have a pic of us kids taken in one of the solitary confinement cells.........and would like an updated one for my passport.

The one thing that I found odd was that our toilet seemed like it used about 25 gallons of water every time it was flushed! And it flushed with enough force that it felt like it was gonna rip your damn colon out! I kid, of course, but it really did flush incredibly long and with great power. "Quit flushing the toilet, Dan!!! How fucking old are you ... 2?!?!"

Aren't you being just a little bit hard on o'girl?

I grew up there and it has really changed over the years. I grew up in the sunset and 99.9% of my friends were Asian, which influenced who I am today. I don't like going there much anymore though. Too much violence, on an average one person gets killed per weekend there. If we do go which is rare, we will usually go to Japan Center, Golden Gate Park, Cliff House area, Twin Peaks, Alcatraz, and/or Treasure Island. Just depends, if we have relatives or friends visiting from Japan, we always take them to the city during the day. Oh and we go to the B2B every year for the walk. My mother used to be a waitress at the Buena Vista in the late 60's and throught the 70's.

I personally prefer to hang out in Tiburon now.

It probably had something to do with a homeless shelter. I used to work up there back in the early 90's and the shelters would only allow the first 50 or 100 or so to get in. What they would do is stand in line usually starting at 4:30pm and the place would usually open to let the first in line in at 5:30 or 6pm. At about 6am they would all get kicked out during the day. In order for them to be eligible to stay the night inside, they had to show up with a form showing that they were out looking for work during the day. Not sure what was going on at 4am that you mentioned, but I have a feeling it has something to do with what I said. It may have changed since I worked in the city. They may now have to get in line at 4am to secure a place to stay for the evening that day. Lot's have changed since Frank Jordan was running the city.

It's open....but......you may want to purchase your tickets well in advance, on line or if you have someone already here they can go and purchase them for you for the future date that you will be here. The tickets are for the ferry boat that will bring you to the island. Usually they are booked solid so....the earlier you get your tickets the better so you can go there. If you wait and buy them on the day that you want to go, most times you won't be able to go, sometimes they will say that there is only space available in a week or ten days or two weeks, etc. from the day that you go to purchase the ferry tickets to Alcatraz. Not in all cases, but a lot and you would want to have everything squared away so you can keep your vacation schedule.
