Yep. I think it's easy for people to judge that "well the cop could have been an asshole like they've been to me but..." but everyone really needs to look at this video and realize that these types of situations, especially with young people, are not uncommon at all. They don't normally escalate to this sort of level, but could easily. Cops deal with this stuff day in and day out depending on where they live of course. How happy and friendly can you expect a cop to be when he pulls you over and doesn't know what he's getting on the other side of that window.
That being said, my husband's personal goal as a cop has always been to get a thank you for every ticket he writes. Does he get one EVERY time, hell no! But you'd be surprised how many times he does

It's all in his delivery, how he may give them the over $100 seatbelt ticket, instead of the $300 speeding ticket. It's the way he words the "break" he's giving them. Plus he is generally a friendly good natured person anyway. Not every cop starts off with an attitude. Obviously it depends on personality.
When he has taught in the academy he has used the line from the movie Roadhouse. He actually will play the clip from the movie to keep the class from snoozing

Here, I found it online:
James Dalton: Don't worry about it; all you have to do is follow 3 simple rules: One, never underestimate your opponent..expect the unexpected; Two, take it outside, never start anything inside the bar unless it's absolutley necessary; and Three...be nice.
Fat bouncer: Come on!!
James Dalton: If somebody gets in your face and calls you a c**ksucker I want you to be nice
Fat Bouncer: Ok
James Dalton: Ask him to walk, be nice, if he won't walk, walk him, but be nice, If you can't walk him, one of the others will help you and you will both be nice...I want you to remember, that it's the job, it's nothing personal.
Bouncer Steve: Being called a c**ksucker isn't personal?
James Dalton: No, it's two nouns combined to elicit a prescribed response
Bouncer Steve: What if somebody calls my Mama a whore?
James Dalton: Is she?
James Dalton: I want you to be nice.. until it's time..to not be nice
And I have no doubt there are times he's NOT nice.
