You're kidding right? While your at it you should probably not buy any gas, stop driving cars, flying, and using bus transit...someone mentioned vasoline...lol, well let's agree to keep that, shall we?

Seriously this is a sign folks, get off the oil addiction. I mean it's bad enough the destruction of our coast lines, but this waste of a resource we are so overly dependent on, is unprecedented.

Btw does anyone have a definitive answer as to what petrol really is? I was always taught in school it was dinosaurs, but now Im hearing there's some question as to what it really is...talk about pissing off mother earth.

I checked with my financial advisor a few weeks ago, and fortunately, I have none in my mutual funds or stocks.

my company provides people to companies that provide onsite services to BP in Chicago and Houston (local workers) . BP gets wiped out those folks contracts will go.

I'm not buying BP gas. I'll buy other things from the convenience stores that sell BP but not the gas.

Be sure to tell your mechanic not to put any Castrol oil in your engine. Also make sure you don't fill up at Arco. Also forget about that cup of coffee at AMPM. That 'll teach those British bastards not to mess with us. Oh, wait, 40% of BP's shareholders are based in the U.S.

BP generated $16.6 billion in profits in 2009. They're not running away from paying for the cleanup of this mess. If anything, any boycott has a more likely effect of hurting thousands of Americans who fall under BP's corporate umbrella.

So...recognizing the general cheekiness of your post...what should we do? Or are we so hopelessly addicted, there's nothing that we can or should do?

We only use Motor Craft oil, we don't have ARCO here and I don't go out for coffee. I buy Folgers and make it at home. I also know that this little act of defiance isn't a drop in the bucket to BP, but it's all I can do and I feel like doing something.

I occasionally get Exxon and they ruined part of our ocean too, with oil. No one continued to boycott them. Short term memories.

Synthetic is the way to go for me...oil change every 10,000 miles...yeah baby yeah !

Yep! Me too!! They are stuck through no fault of their own. The economy is hurting enough. Why hurt it more. It's where I got gas 99% of the time anyway, so I won't stop.

The store owner pre-pays for that gas under contract. They make most of their money from the gas. Buying a soda isn't going to keep the store owner in business.

What cracks me up is the "boycotters" seem to forget oil companies supply AND sell gas, so there is no way for you to know when you're buying BP products anyway

In 1988, 167 people, mostly UK citizens died when the Piper Alpha Platform, run by Occidental Petroleum (an American company) caught fire. That rig accounted for 10% of the North Sea oil production.
The fire could have been contained quickly but two other platforms connected to the Piper Alpha continued to pump gas as Occidental was concerned about the exorbitant financial cost such a shut down would incur.

An inquiry was critical of Piper Alpha's operator, Occidental, which was found guilty of having inadequate maintenance and safety procedures but no criminal charges were ever brought against it.
