For one... think this is a bad idea... it might of sounded like a great idea at the time...and on paper... but Santana doing Def Leppard or ACDC... something is wrong with this picture in my opinion... dont get it... amazing guitarist in his own right... doesnt need this does he??? discuss...

Great guitarist and pretty damn good at writing as well. So fuck all that and do a covers album? I'm with you on the "don't get it" statement. I think it's ok for artists to cover others, and put ONE cover on an album, that would be terrific, but a whole album of covers is so fucking weak.

Rod Stewart and Barry Manilow have made a killing off of it over the last few years.
I think if you a have a great catalog and tons of hits, doing one of these isn't that big a deal. It's when you haven't established yourself yet, that it looks hokey.
James Taylor was lauded for his cover album, even being nominated for a Grammy for his Rendition of Wichita Lineman.

I am not really that into Santana, but I am interested in seeing his take on these songs. While My Guitar Gently Weeps is one of my all-time favorite songs and I want to hear what he does with it, especially with Yo Yo Ma playing on the track.

As I just glanced at the Joint at Hard Rock concert update, it struck me that he may be doing this to fill his set with some songs the casual fans that come to his gig in Las Vegas will recognize and to give them something to purchase.
