Caught the Frig up on the Hill on CSPAN, and he of course went for the heartstrings. No prob with that, but dude could have donned a fucking tie; I mean after all, he did appear before Congress.

It doesn't matter!!
What's really important is how well he would work for this country, as a whole...
will he stand his ground in times of despair or will he be known as the
country cracker?!?

Good comment!
I am glad Jon could share this about his life. What an amazingly strong man. Coming through that made him a better person then most of us will ever be. Gives me a whole new respect for someone I ( and others) probably have only thought of as " Journey's keyboardist." And as someone else stated what an incredible contrast Jon is to Steve Perry's constant "poor me I have suffered so much" attitude & his wanting life stopped for him. I wish Jon a lot of happiness and peace of mind.

very good story... you could tell he was sincere and it was hard for him to talk about his child hood.
not getting into if I would vote for him or not... but feel he is sincere in wanting to save the music...and doing this
for the big picture and not to get himself on the news... plus he has kids in high school age now right... so this is
a huge deal for him being a parent.

Yes, as soon as I can get my hands on that cryin' Cain Pic we'll talk about Boo Hoo, Poor me!!
Leave it to a pinhead!!
In the meantime, I cannot comment on this vid yet, as the person you quoted did, but I am sure that
anything
any musician has to say concerning the
Save The Music Foundation would be very
inspirational and heartfelt, the commercials touch my heart ...could you imagine a
world w/out music?!?

Wow, thanks a lot for posting that Deano - now I'm going to have a hard time laughing at gay friga jokes anymore!!
Now I can see where all his killer emotion-filled songs came from. Between Jon's loss at the age of 8 and Steve's loss of his father at the age of 10 - they had the chemistry to produces some really emotional ballads.
Check out this song below - you can feel the emotion of sadness in it:

He mentions his father in a lot of stories, who btw, lived here in Arkansas for awhile.
What's the story on his mother? Did he grow up without a Mom?
Just curious.

First, what a good person. A well intended individual.
Having said that though, fuck music and arts. Jon Cain did NOT need music in the public schools. He's a natural. Did Neal need music in the classroom, I think not - the man hardly went to school. These rock/music education commercials make me puke. Most of the performers today, do not have formal training and can't even read music. It is truly a natural talent, same thing with art. Music in the schools had nothing to do with their success. I highly doubt learning "Hot Cross Buns" on a flute made them rock stars.
Also, if his school did not burn down, would he be up there advocating for this? No. Another thing, he didn't move because he couldn't step inside the new school, he moved just like all the other families did - white flight as the neighborhood changed. He would've moved even if the school didn't burn down. He had no choice, Tyrone made that decision for him and his family.
As far as the argument goes, students do better in school with music is bullshit. They're band geeks. They're the nerds of the school. If it wasn't music, it would be something else and the dorks would still get the good grades.
Finally, unfortunately, judging by his views on this topic and other things in the past, I would say Mr. Cain is probably to the left...which disappoints. I figured he was a democrat but a blue collar-Reagan Democrat, which would be ok. Now, I think Hollywood got a hold of him and he's too far to the left. So, though I think he's a good person and I respect him (and could probably work with him in a bi-partisan fashion on certain issues), I would NOT vote for him. Sorry Jon.

Jon is a very nice man. He is a kind hearted man and that to me is the essence of a great man. I am glad he isn't too hung up to show his true emotions. I have great respect for him and his family. He is one of the few people in the limelight that I find to be down to earth when I met him. I can spot a phony right away. He came accross as kind and sincere.
I don't care who disagrees with me here. I cannot say enough good things about the man. The story was touching, and I could tell he meant what he said. I learned to read people very well. God bless him and his wife and children. And condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the fire.
Our schools desperately need the arts. The arts help children who go through great tribulation as children find a way to deal with the pain or loneliness. I never had an art teacher or band at my school. I drew and had no guidence, and when I went to college the first time I was so behind the other students in learning. God bless my college art teachers who nurtured and helped me grow as an artist. God bless the musicians who fight so children will have a chance to experiance music and art in our schools. God Bless Jonathan Cain.

Tito, this is about the dumbest thing you have ever said, well next to all the racist remarks you have made in the past.

Arts are needed in our schools desperately. I am an art nerd in your eyes I guess. I have seen art take children from disadvantaged homes and give them a way to express and deal with the pain. Children who struggle mightily with fitting in with A-holes who think they are better than poor kids turn to music for a way to express loneliness. No thanks to turds who think like you. Bite me. This is where your lack of heart has gone too far.

No Jana, he is not a doll. Ginger, Friga is anything but a genuine guy. He has to be the biggest phony in the band. Hang with him backstage for awhile and get to know him. You would be shocked. Rolling his eyes at fans and meet n greets, etc.
This wasn't my intention- to bash Cain; but someone who somewhat knows the guy, I had to set the record straight with Jana and Ginger.

Sure he's a doll. And I'm sure he has his other sides, too. Doesn't everybody? Steve Perry is a doll but he treated young Stu like crap. Most band members on tour dread the meet and greet concert after concert. Roland Orzabal barely smiles for a photo, but he sings amazing. I've seen Jon in a great mood before and laughing a lot. Plus, he has an amazing upper body/great arms even for a 40-something-year-old,much less his age.

Oh, sorry, I got off topic.
