Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons---review

Postby lights1961 » Tue Jul 27, 2010 5:14 am

ALL I got to say is if you have seen Jersey Boys... there is no comparison as far as the VOICE of Frankie Valli himself. At 77 he still sounds amazing. The show we saw was at Mystic Lake Casino this past weekend. Started out with Dawn... and 110 minutes later finished with Hang on... in the middle you had Cant take my eyes off of you, (goose bumps) my eyes adore you, sherry, Grease, walks like man, rag dolland many others...plus he added some covers from a 60s type cd he put out in 2007... my girl and spanish harlem to name a couple.of the songs... just incredible experience... we had 4th row seats on the right side... and damn I am pissed I did not have a camera to take pics... even though the mystic lake camera police were everywhere... ;-)

Frankie looks amazing for 77... ;-) and his pipes were HOT... his band was great and really tight... the four seasons did all the moving and dancing around him... he moved a little---but it was more like the shuffle... but still what a WOW performance... the funny thing about the show was I think my wife and I were youngest there... wanted to stand and sing along with the songs---but the crowd was pretty stiff.... until the very end... it seems like casions are like that with crowds...but still what a great experience... lots of gray hair rock and rollers...

I will add that Mystic Lake is an AMAZING venue!! MUCH different than when I saw Journey there in 2004... ;-) Anyway... for me this night will stay with me for a long time... I will pay to see them again in a heart beat!!

anyway for those who love rock and roll from any era... go see him if you can when and if Franki Valli comes to your town...

Rick

FYI... Mystic Lake Casino is SouthWest of Minneapolis, MN... for those who care to know...

Hey Rick -

I saw him in September and March. He's still excellent and the band around him fills in the gaps admirably. Great songs.

well, I got in the car and "Sherry" was on the radio.
Then I put in my 7th heaven medley CD, and "December, 1963" is on it... (they cover that one really well)

...but my all time fave is "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You"... :P

I know - and I'd LOVE to see FV live... I could have in '06... but I found out about the only the day before I saw Jersey Boys and it was sold out by then. I hope I get the chance again. I should check this out and see if he's gonna be around town anytime soon. :D

Best Frankie ballad is My Eyes Adored You

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HJ7w9MTCqs

Underrated Frankie song that I unfortunately didn't hear him play the two times I saw him in the last 10 months: Opus 17

Good modern performance of Who Loves You :

You gotta see him if you get the chance - as Rick said, he's still great vocally and his band rocks. I really love hearing the songs performed by more contemporary musicians, especially the young guitar players he's got. Just rocks things up more.

This is my favorite 4Seasons song and really the only one played on regular rotation on soft rock stations:

I saw FV on TV recently (PBS benefits show), and amazed that he still can sing in that high nasally voice at his age.

Great to read of this Rick, thanks for telling us about it.
Frankie Valley is one I would have liked to see with my Father.
Glad you enjoyed the show Sir.
