Actually a lady from the Arkansas Arts Council sent me this exact picture. She said that is what my art reminds her of. :D

I love looking at other artwork as well as working on my own. I start these threads and some add their favorites. Some never post, and that is fine too. I love the illustration and fantasy art. Surrealism too. That album cover is wonderful! Thanks for sharing! :D

Shame is....you won't see anyone put that much work into a CD cover. Unless they are crazy.... Any takers?

Only Rodney Matthews (Magnum) that I'm aware of, but most wouldn't want that anyway. Utterly brilliant artist and perfect for that band.

the Sleepwalking album cover....just look at the detail which has aspects of most of the previous albums somewhere

The On a Storyteller's Night cover (also Magnum) is wonderful.

Surrealism - Salvador Dali.
Have you seen that painting of his called The Christ of St John on the Cross - which everyone seems to overlook because it doesn't involve melting clocks etc?

And no, it's not a painting of Dan.

I think it's beautiful

Sort of looks like something you might see on a Yes album cover. Cool.

I like that one. He did two or three paintings with Christ as a subject.

I love art nouveau - just a few favourites:

Image Aubrey Beardsley, one of my favourite artists.

Image Alphonse Mucha

This one's by a contemporary New Zealand artist, Rebecca Osbourne; a nice combination of art nouveau and surrealistic elements:

Not just painting:

And to go back in time, some tapestries from the Middle Ages:

Beautiful stuff Ari, I love the gargoyles and carving on that blue building! gorgeous! Too bad they don't make them like that anymore. Funny thing is, it is easier to make stuff like that now. And how lovely would our buildings be?

Cool stuff Rip. I love the Marvel and DC work! I have my students do a Marvel comic book cover of a hero of their own every year. They love it!

Egyptian needlepoint, nice! LOL! That is because the Journey symbol is an egyptian scarab. Made much like the jewelry worn by the pharoahs.

The egyptians had the idea long before Stanley Mouse! LOL! He was a great artist. I was pissed off when I bought a book this weekend that had 1000 great album covers, and not one, NOT ONE of his works was on it. They had Mary Hartman album for crying out loud. And all it had on it was a photo of her.
