Saw them last night - great show! Mike Reno sounds fabulous. Outdoor concert, small crowd, beautiful summer night :D

The very pleasant surprise for me was the opening act - a Beatles tribute band called Fab Fourever. Wonderful! Here they are - this video doesn't really do them justice.

At one point, a few years back, I really thought these guys were washed up. Little more than a sad punchline on those VH1 best of the 80s shows. Especially after catching a disastrous performance on NBC’s has-been fest, “Hit Me Baby One More Time.” Boy, I was wrong. Track-for-track, their last album, Just Getting Started, is probably their best work and one of the best rock albums I’ve bought in years. Reno has obviously outgrown the red leathers, but still brings it. Awesome pipes. At this point, I think they are more legit than Journey - something I NEVER dreamed of saying.

Should have won Best of 2007...however, look at some of the titles that beat it out:

Circus Maximus - Isolate
Nightengale - White Darkness
The Poodles - Sweet Trade
Kid Rock - Rock n Roll Jesus
Pink Cream 69 - In10sity
David Readman - S/T
Gotthard - Domino Effect
Shakra - Infected
Redrum - No Turning Back
Human Zoo - Over the Horizon
Crazy Lixx - Loud Minority
Storm Zone - Caught in the Act
Scorpions - Humanity Hour 1
Threshold - Dead Reckoning

There's not one track I skip on JGS....

Absolutely agree with all of the above - I remember seeing that episode too and just feeling really sad for what they had become. I don't know what was going on there - maybe just a bad time for them? But you're right - they've rebounded big time and the whole band sounds great. I was hoping they'd do at least a couple from the last album but didn't happen - oh well - it was a Nascar crowd - everyone was perfectly happy with the hits!

(Looks like Mike has dropped a little bit of weight since the Olympics in Feb. - for those who always need to comment about that  )

They did play in Arkansas a few years back, and Dallas earlier this year. I missed both unfortunately.

My Loverboy playlist:

Real Thing
Take me to the Top
Notorious
The Kid is Hot Tonight
Stranded
Lovin' Every Minute of it
Queen of the Broken Hearts (favorite LB song)
Lucky ones
Hot Girls in Love
Turn Me Loose
Jump
Fade to Black
As Good as it Gets
The One that Got Away
Lost With you
Back for More
One of them Days
Just Getting Started
I Would Die for You
Working for the Weekend
When its Over
This Could be the night
Heaven in your eyes
Almost Paradise

My band was doing a show at the same Casino with them. Turns out, Mike Reno was in the room next to my wife and I and the other guys were in the same area of the hotel. We ended up eating breakfast at the same restaurant together (we told them where to go) and they were super cool guys.

Clip from the Olympics in Vancouver this past Feb.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8rZd56wlc4

This was a great show - it was broadcast on TV here so I was able to DVR it. I'd put some clips on YT but I see the International Olympic Committee has blocked most of the good clips from others that were there  Too bad I forgot to take my camcorder for last night's show - it was a very up-close, cozy setting - coulda got some great video.
