Extra condiments?!?

So I go to McDonald's the other day, and as I'm dumping my tray on the way out I notice a new rectangular metal bin on top of the trash can with a taped-on printed sign that says "EXTRA CONDIMENTS". Are they seriously asking people to put their unused packets of ketchup and whatever else back in so they can put them on someone else's tray? Anyone else see these?

It's wasteful and unnecessary to throw them away if they haven't been opened in any way.
Why not wash them?
The restaurant I once worked for made us clean the butter packets that were unused.

I've thought about that but still... I figured they had it built into their overall food cost. And who knows for sure they are being washed first?

I've known some Chinese restaurants that would take uneaten egg rolls from people's plates and refry them. A secret for Chinese buffets is to stay away from anything that is fried too dark (rice, egg rolls, etc.), because it's the second time it's been done.

We don't know.
I haven't seen the metal bin you spoke of Rip but if I do
in the future you can be darn sure I will wash the packets myself.

By the way, Stone Cold Steve Austin broke Sylvester Stallone's neck during the filming of The Expendables, and ended up needing an operation! Can't wait for this film!
