CANCER: U really suck!!

Haven't been on a in a while. I saw the PHIL KENNEMORE TO BATTLE CANCER update on the front page. And thought this would be the perfect title to the thread.

It's been a rough year and a half emotinally for my family. My mother-in-law lost her battle with breast cancer back in Dec 09 and my last remaining grandparent, my grandfather, just passed from lung cancer last month on July 5th. My mother and I took my grandfathers remains to the cemetery today per his wishes as they were flown up from Florida. He was a Marine in WWII so I am taking care of his veterans plaque on the back of his gravestone.

Talking to my father-in-law about cancer, who is going through his own radiation treatments, he said people used to die back in the day all the time but they just did not know what it was from and it was probably cancer. Seems like anything you come in conctact with can cause cancer. It just sucks.

I guess this is more of a venting thread than anything else so feel free to vent and give the finger to cancer if you want.

Vent away. I know few lives that have not been touched by this brutal disease. My own mother is a breast cancer survivor. But I have lost others. Get checked folks.

Yes, cancer sucks! My 14 y/o daughter has a t-shirt that says "Cancer Sucks". She's a five year survivor of brain cancer. I Also have a nephew & uncle who are survivors, and a grandfather who lost his fight back in 2001. Watching your child go through something like that is unimaginable. Never want to do that again.

Best of luck to your father-in-law.

CANCER SUCKS!

A doctor I was told to see many years ago told me this:

"nope, it is benign. If nothing transpires within five years you are safe. But, you will do yourself well to think positive, as positive as you can do. You would be surprised how much that helps. Do not give it energy."

He was an old, brown Jamaican (I asked him 'cause of his accent) with graying "locked" braids down his back. The man was an OBGYN; Cancer Specialist; General Practitioner; Pediatrician...I swear this is true.

Even though I have suffered from depression all my life, I try very hard not to buy into it. I will NEVER forgot those words no matter the outcome because I am so scared of making myself ill. I think the doc said something about being negative and sad all the time causes some kind of fluid to build up and that endorphins are better on your system than sadness or something. I forgot.

Don't let me dictate how any of you live your lives, that is not my intention. I think what I am stating is that we don't choose some of our illnesses, but we don't have to buy into them either. Our bodies respond to both negative and happy energy, so I hope we can all be as happy and positive as we can be despite what we are dealing with.

Good luck to all of you and your families! MBPL (Lorrie)

Sorry about your loss and the continued sadness . I hope you feel better after venting here and that each day lessens the pain enough to make it a worthwhile day and a brighter one.

Awesome stuff, Lorrie. Seriously.

And I urge everyone to give money to a good cancer foundation. Remember to check moles, breasts, testicles or generally anything that feels out of place too.

Breast cancer took my mother a year after being diagnosed at only 49 years old. It does suck, and I'll gladly give the finger to it with you.

I say this doctor is a very smart man, I agree with him completely!!
My home remedy is to laugh ...laugh loud and laugh often, spend time w/people who make you laugh and if you find yourself
in the presence of a real downer, make them laugh!!! It really does wonders for the heart and soul and it helps keep the
ab muscles in pretty good shape too ...

So sorry to hear this VMV ... :(

Yeah, I'll be glad when cancer goes the way of small pox. In the mean time, hug someone you love, and live life so you can have no regrets.

I'm terrified of cancer. But... everyone I know who has had it (none related to me) have recovered.

I'm sad that some of you haven't been so lucky. :(
