(CNN) -- Three family members at a wedding in Turkey have been accidentally shot dead by the groom firing an AK-47 rifle in celebration.

The groom, Tevfik Altin, lost control of his rifle, spraying the guests with bullets and killing his father and two aunts and injuring six others, according to CNN Turk.

It reported that Altin had been arrested after the incident in the village of Akcagoze in southeastern Turkey. Guns are often fired into the air in celebration in some parts of Turkey.

One family member, who did not give his name, told CNN: "It happened very quickly. We all tried to take cover and there was blood all over. We are all very sad right now."

The injured guests included three children aged 10, 12 and 16, according to CNN Turk.

The Sehitkamil State hospital where some of the injured were brought confirmed it has one patient still in the hospital.

How would you like to be in this guy's shoes?

I will never get the act of shooting in the air in celebration. What goes up, must come down! GRAVITY! You can kill people without losing control of the gun. And it happens in this country too. It's very popular in mexican culture too. We have a small mexican population in our town, and every year, around cinco de mayo time, and such occassions, the city puts signs up all over town showing a gun facing the sky with a red circle and slash through it, to tell them not to do it. The police have handed out flyers in one particular area too. Amazing people have to be told this.

"I now pronounce you man and wife. You may now mow down the wedding party with an AK47."

That is insane. That guy's life was completely fucked in one quick second.

Imagine this guy's horror waking up this morning and finding himself still in jail after killing his dad, his aunt, and several other family members - when he's supposed to be enjoying time alone with his new wife in a lavish hotel during their honeymoon. What a nightmare - and it's a permanent one.

This is the worst case of bait-and-switch that I've heard of in a long time.

:(

lol ... last time I was there the nightly news ran and showed Greeks and Turks clubbing each other to death over some fucking barren island. A google search will probably yield the answer to the specifics, but I was too busy laughing to listen to the exact details. It looked like a fucking cartoon. I didn't care who won, as both countries, like the vast majority of Europe, are filled with smelly, medieval, soccer-adoring trash.
