We Are The Fallen

Anyone else fond of the Evanescence-esque We Are the Fallen? This new rock band with haunting melodies, heartbreaking lyrics and a dark edge consists of American Idol alumni Carly Smithson, Marty O'Brien and former Evanescence members Ben Moody, John LeCompt, and Rocky Gray

If you've never heard the debut CD Tear The World Down, the poignant "I Am Only One" is the song to listen to

This is coming from a big female rock & gothic fan in general. Overall, I think WaTF are very good, the album 'Tear the World Down' is solid, but not awesome. I think their first tour with H.I.M. must've rubbed off on them because I hear some influence in their songwriting (never a bad thing in my book.) The biggest problem I have with the album is a lack of a catchy hit single, but if they last longer than 1 album I think they have the potential to pick up where the original cast of Evanescence left off.

In fact, all I wanted from American Idol was another Amy Lee. I got it in Carly Smithson. I wish her and the selection of Evanescence outcasts the best of luck.

I have been REALLY impressed with Carly/WATF. I didn't know much of her and this seemed like an odd fit. But she is very strong. Having been a HUGE EV/Amy Lee fan I think Carly could have Amy beat if she doesn't let the road tear her voice up like Amy did. I definatley hope there are some legs on WATF!

'Burn' comes to mind as one of the better tracks. I like the album as a whole though, but still disappointed by the lack of a solid standout single.

curmudgeon alert! Downloaded it, listenend to it....not a fan. No new ground broken here. In fact, it is basically Evanescence sans Amy Lee. Evenescence was nothing special to begin with....everyone thought it was a new music style...WRONG. Amy just brought the commercial aspect to it. And so many predessessors did it better....

Within Temptation
After Forever
Nightwish
Epica
The Gathering

and a few singers who mop the floor with Amy:

Simone Simons
Floor Jansen
Sharon den Adel
Anneke Van Giersbergen

100% agree. If you want this style of music pick up Nightwish , or Within Temptation. And if your are dying to buy something thats just released, pick up Tarja Turunen's new album What Lies Beneath, just released . Some great stuff on there.

Except I don't care for the more operatic vocals of many of those bands....especially Tarja. Amy's vocals have suffered due to the long touring. But I still enloy her voice. And I think Carly is stronger, at least right now. But it has more to do with the feel of their voices. They are more pleasing even if not as talented as others listed.

I think these voices are excellent.....and this is the kind of music I like best. These ladies rock!

My step sister is good friends with WATF's guitarist John LeCompt, and he brought his family to her mother's New Years get-together this year. I talked to him for a bit and they are doing a free concert along with Cirque Berzerk in Los Angeles at the end of January. I thought about flying up to see them play, but I already have something else in the works. If anyone is interested in going, let me know and I'll pass the word along.

Brilliant deduction Professor.

They are exactly that.

The whole reason for their name is because they played on the album "Fallen"

Amy Lee and her ego ruined Evanescence...As the sales from The Open Door proved.

Ben Moody co-wrote everything off that album and was a co-founder...He left the band mid tour because of Amy.

I'm glad this band is happening...If for the sole reason that they are truly band..

John said that Cirque Berzerk would be doing their thing while the band is performing, so it sounds like it's going to be a really cool stage show.
