I'm an athiest, but I love this band. Like a cross between Springsteen, Jim Steinman and West Side Story. What do you think? Give it a couple of spins.

In fact I'd go as far as to say this is my favourite song of the year so far. I also know S2M (who has some great music) will hate it

I'm not a fan of Christian rock, but this guy (who sings very traditional gospel music) is one of my favorite singers. What a powerful voice! 8) I could listen to him sing the phone book.

I don't hate it...I'm just picky. I don't neccesarily dislike christian music....I just don't like it all in my face. Kansas was a christian band. I LOVE them. They took a more philosophical approach with the topics, than a religious one....Creed was christian. Guardian, Adriangale were both pseudo-christian bands. LOVE both of them....it all depends on the 'in your faceness' of the lyrics....

Creed wasn't Christian -- they were fakers. Scott Stapp was just an egomaniac who was raised in a fundamentalism upbringing, and I think he loved the attention writing those songs brought them. I've seen interviews where they asked him and he said they were not Christian.

It's obligatory that I have to bring out Heavy Metal Steve Perry, Les Carlson from Bloodgood:

Bloodgood's one of the best Christian metal bands EVER. Hooks to spare! (See "Never Be The Same"!)

Well, I wouldn't call them fakers. They never really pretended to be Christian, though some of their songs definitely have some spiritual concepts. Personally, a song like "My Own Prison" has a lot more meaning to me spiritually than most songs that are blatantly "Christian".

As for Stapp, he pretty much admitted being a scumbag when he was still drinking like a fish. I'd be interested to hear how he's doing now that he's supposedly off the bottle.

Another method is if you use the Heavy Harmonies main site and filter for the CCM bands

Yeh, but what about the band i posted about?

Bloodgood, fark me - you don't need an Islamic fundamentalist - I'd have chucked a hand grenade on stage myself.

It was amazing how so many of those bands were kinda targeting the sound of popular secular bands.

Barren Cross (Bruce Dickinson sound-alike) was a favorite of mine, and Atomic Arena was one of my favorite rock albums for a long time. It's a masterpiece. State Of Control was also very good but suffered from slicky-overtrebbly 80's style production. Would love to hear it remastered.

I love early Whitecross (RATT sound-alike), but my favorite album of theirs was Equilibrium. It's excellent song for song.

Does anyone remember Trytan (Rush sound-alike)? I looked them up to see what they were up to these days. Singer Lary Dean seems to be doing well and having fun!

Here he is doing some Evel Knievel stuff on a dirt bike.

They do sound a lot like Ratt but I don't think it was intentional. That said, Rex Carrol was/is a much better guitarist than Warren DiMartini. Always thought he sounded like a helluva combo of Eddie Van Halen and Yngwie Malmsteen.

"Atomic Arena" is certainly excellent and you're right about the Bruce Dickinson soundalike, Mike Lee.

I do remember Lary Dean.....I had both Trytan's cd's and on the back was a phone number to call to book them...I called for the heck of it and it was Lary Dean himself and he told me Trytan was no more. We did talk for a while...Very nice guy...

I always felt it was intentional. at least in the beginning. Even though Rex Carroll wasn't a DeMartini clone himself, they definitely borrowed some RATT-style chops for some of their songs. "Straight Thru The Heart" had a main riff and beat very reminiscent of "Lay It Down".

Love this song!

Yes, though I believe they re-released their first album in 2000. They only had two albums. Here is my favorite song from the first one: Not a bad Rush imitation!

Here's one from their second album Sylentiger -- too bad the production was lacking on this one:

Bullcrap...Their first three albums had several good songs, though I can't say any of them are amongst my favorites. This last album was pretty good straight through, though.

Have to agree... Stapp may have his issues, but Creed made some good music. And with the other guys minus Stapp, Alter Bridge made some good music too. Heard their 3rd album is supposed to be out soon.
