Album of the Year is Broken Bells, self-titled album Broken Bells. This a grower, just a gem of an album, and love it because it is fresh and original, which is rare these days. Their collaboration brought something really unexpected. Their strengths really complimented each other on this project.

"Broken Bells is an American rock music band composed of artist-producer Brian Burton (better known as Danger Mouse)" -- The brilliant creative force behind Gnarls Barkley -- "and James Mercer, the lead vocalist and guitarist for the Portland indie rock band The Shins. Broken Bells compose and create as a duo, but are joined by a full band on tour. Following the success of their first self-titled album, Broken Bells, Mercer and Burton have announced intentions to record a follow-up."

songs on the album:

The High Road - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mkr19RSG6k

The Ghost Inside - live performance - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNl0Jw9_Z5A

Vaporize - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tstDvkp ... re=related

At this point i'm really digging the John Legend & Roots CD that just got released, just to add fuel to Jeremeys non AOR fire....its a great record, amazing band and a hell of a singer. Not a bad song on the CD.

Now, if the question is what is the best AOR song of the year.....

Here's the deal w/M5....I always thought they were a boy band type band and hated them. I had a lot of respect for Levine as a singer, despite all of the processing on the debut record, but I just thought they were too dance-y and boy bandish....Ironically I bought "Call And Response" which was a remix CD of M5 songs because one of my heros Eric Wareheim directed a video for it and I thought the song was great.

The funny thing is that listening to the remix stuff made me really concentrate on the melody and the tunes without all the busy "band" stuff and I realized that there was a whole bunch of melody and soul in the songs, not unlike Journey and a lot of the other bands I really liked.

So went back to listen to "Songs About Jane" and found some real great tunes.

It's dressed up in pretty production and annoying fluff, but at the root of it all there's some good songs.

So go listen to "How" and tell me if it wasn't by a big AOR act produced by Mutt it wouldn't be otherwise awesome....

Anyway, I'll put down my blazing guns....

I can't wait to get John Legend & Roots CD. This was a great idea for the album. I have all his music. And I love the Roots on the Jimmy Fallon Show.

Here's my favorite new song of this year...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAh_SCjCh8A&ob=av2e

It's Ozzy's "Life Won't Wait For You" song off of the "Let Me Hear You Scream" album. It's an amazing album, and he still has it even after all of these years! I put him in the same category as David Coverdale... He can still write some amazing songs, AND sing great. He's just a little more raspy than he used to be. Not as much as Coverdale, but I think they both still sound amazing! :D
The artist formerly known as Jim. :-)

Album of the year for me at the moment is The Union's self titled album, which came out a couple of weeks ago. Not a dud song on it.

Song of the year - current favourite is 'You Know My Name' from the same album.

I was about to nominate tracks from WET and Foreigner's latest, but apparently both of those came out in 2009. Man, has it really been that long?
