I almost had this posted the other day, but stopped because I wasn't sure I had the right impression of what went down. She recently played at her old high-school and singled out a guy in the crowd who she used to have a crush on -- he was one of the most popular guys in school, and apparently he wasn't interested in her. So she rubs that in his face in front of everyone, saying that he always wanted to go out with another girl instead of her and indicating he made a big mistake, then dedicated the song "You're So Gay" to him. I watched the video to see if she was being mean and low-class, or was doing it in a fun way that everyone could laugh at. Hey, I can certainly see taking that situation and having some fun with it without trying to make the guy look bad, and everyone would have loved it.

So anyway, I wasn't convinced from watching the video until I saw he'd responded. Turns out he's engaged to marry his high school sweetie, and seems happy. So he'd be better off dating a controversy-addicted skank like Kary Perry who would probably dump him in a few weeks after she got tired of him? She's with Russell Brand right now, who just got arrested for attacking some paparazzi, lol. She definitely doesn't seem interested in the settling down type. Katy Perry performed at her old high school Tuesday, Dos Pueblos High School near Santa Barbara, and once she spotted an ex-classmate she decided she had a little unfinished business with him.

Katy publicly embarrassed Shane Lopes, telling the crowd that he was so popular that he never wanted anything to do with her when they went to school together. Bitter much?

Katy voiced to the entire crowd: “Is that Shane Lopes? Holy schizer (correction by Rokken -- it was scheiße, the German word for s**t)... you were the most popular kid in my class. But you never wanted to date me . . . Oh yeah, you really chose well . . . what’s up now, playa?! I dedicate this next one to Shane Lopes everyone, it’s called, ‘You’re So Gay.’”

Shane Lopes spoke with TMZ after the incident and said that he ”couldn’t believe it” when Katy pointed him out to the crowd. He claims she ”exaggerated” about everything and that the two never had any problems.

The funny thing is that Shane Lopes is engaged to be married – to his high school sweetheart. And she is hotter than you, Katy. Sorry to break it to you. Shane adds that he is ”happy with how things turned out.”



Fame and money never bring true happiness if you have to sell your soul to get it. What a narcissistic little twit she is, LOL.

I still dig Katy so far, I mean that's pretty funny to be honest...what was this douche doing at her show if he didn't give two shits about her back in the day...she's definitely more classy than a Brittany or gaga...as for Russell, the paparazzi are mostly douches anyway...even if Katy and Russell's marriage doesn't work out, they're probably the best thing for each other right now.

I agree completely with the writer, bitter much? What a ridiculous grudge to hold. So funny how time and age still don't make that type of immature insecurity go away.

He's a coach there now at the school. And he thought it was funny. He gave an interview somewhere and had a lot of great things to say about Katy. Nice guy.

Wow - now having seen the video and the followup interview, this was just fun on Katy's part - there was no crush or anything..and the dude sounded like he appreciated the joke....talk about the media making something out of nothing..

Yeah, I hadn't seen that later follow-up. Maybe she was just having fun and the media ran off with it. The reason I didn't post in the first place, lol. Oh well, still an interesting story. But who knows -- maybe she got so much negative feedback that her publicist called him and told him how to spin it.

Pretty mean thing to do to the guy... especially if she never even went out with him (maybe this is why? just sayin'... lol) I mean, it's not like he had the chance to give her a reason to be bitchy...lol!

I still get the idea she has a lot of resentment in her, especially with her upbringing. I kinda get that in interviews. She was raised by two extremely strict, fundamentalist pastor parents who had her record a gospel album. She attracted a producer who lured her off to Hollywood and turned her into what she is now. She kinda reminds me of Madonna in the way she tosses out little hints of spirituality in her interviews, or in some of her poses, but it comes off like she's tossing passive-aggressive bombs to piss her parents off (and of course milk all the controversy for profit).

If she is rejecting that kind of upbringing, I totally understand. I just get disgusted seeing young spoiled celebs using the media to air out their personal grievances with family, friends, whoever.

Where's the rejection of her upbringing? If anything I see her putting some respectable parameters around being a talented albeit quirky starlette and in the process somewhat distancing herself from that of a derivative media whore of exponential proportions (see also Gaga and Madonna in her prime).

I'm not saying her music is outweighs her antics.. I like a few of her songs. I thought it was pretty friggen funny driving around San Diego this summer with my cuz and hearing "California Girls" non stop on EVERY radio station...but out of all the overplayed radio stuff, I think she's pretty good for what she is.
