I love me some Mr.Collins, but this video is just weird. Phil's vocals sound like a helium filled computerized auto tuned train wreck. At times he's away from the mic and you can obviously hear his voice. (who ohh....) So, do you think he's lip syncing or just a bad case of live auto tuning?

No, the tempo and pitch were changed in the clip you posted. People do that all the time on Youtube. Here's a clip from the audience and it's in the correct pitch. Sounds much better!

I thought that as well, but I did alot of research before posting that link, and it seems it's the correct speed/key. Well...at least it's close to the average. But the voice...jeesh...eek... btw..your link surely has been slowed down. That's not even close the the average speed on that song live, at least from what I've seen?

All that aside, not liking the voice at 1:36 while Phil is far from the microphone.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgIbM2hnHgo <-- from Live Earth Concert at the correct pitch for the tour. He was singing tuned down (at least on most songs) for the Genesis tour compared to the original recordings.

Your recording is higher pitched than what he was singing. I don't know what the uploader did--most likely tried to make it sound like the original studio recording. There are programs that will change the pitch without affecting the tempo. Why they would do that is beyond me.

That is hugely suspect.

Wow. That was all f*cked up. I agree that somebody probably changed the pitch when they were uploading, but they went overboard with it. It's bordering on Chipmunk territory. The evidence 1:36 into the clip with the lead vocals when he is a few feet back from the mic is way past being suspect. Perhaps an overdubbed vocal track. If so, they should have used a different camera shot at that point that didn't make these shenanigans so obvious.

Sounds like a chipmunk. Looks like one too. But this is clearly a video rip issue...

No doubt. Lip synching the whole song. Why did they use the chipmunk track when they could have used the original? Maybe that would be too much of a dead giveaway. They probably used the original recording and "aged" his voice with a harmonizer or an autotune machine. I'm sure they had the keyboards sequenced too.

I was going to see them on that tour but sold my tickets on eBay. I'm glad I didn't now - I'm not much into the Chipmunks. Plus, the tickets cost way too much money to be listening to backing tracks - I can do that at home!

The 2nd clip from kgdjpubs has the same thing at 1:36 as the first clip, Phils mic is down and he isn't singing. That may be someone else singing that part. Chipmunk is right though for that first clip.

Sounded like the same chipmink voice to me, and no one else was at the mic. He was lipping it.

pay attention to the supposed "lipping" part...

amazing what you get when you let the audio play normally without messing with it

Phil Collins....always in my top 5 vocalists. I question some his song writing, but the voice is always there.

Thanks, that solves it as far I'm concerned. Good find and thanks for posting. ;) Yah..that "whoa!" at 1:36 is a bit confusing, gone in this one, there in the other, then there again in another. To me it's obviously Phil's voice, perhaps a backing track or sumpin. ;)
