Tommy Shaw ruined Styx like Neil Schon ruined Journey. What is it with guitarists thinking the band is about them????????? Oh add -Mick Jones Foreigner & Frankie Sullivan- Survivor . Its the singer- NOT THE SONG !!!!! Will Joe Perry think he can move on w/o Tyler???? I hope not!!!!

hate to tell you, but Jimi Jamison left Survivor of his own accord. After unceremoniously running off Dave Bickler to get Jamison back in the fold, Frankie Sullivan didn't have much choice if he wanted a band.

Tommy Shaw can sing his ass off...I can't see this being that bad unless you're comparing him directly to prime Perry (which "Open Arms" was)...

Comparing Tommy Shaw singing to Neal Schon singing is ridiculous...

Is this a joke? "Neil" Schon didn't ruin Journey. Even with Perry gone, the band served at the whims of Sony A&R guys that wanted Arrival to have ten different Open Arms knock-offs. The new album sounds like Neal is getting his way for the first time since Red 13. Which is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on your opinion.

Cut #20 Wheel in the Sky - Kelly Hanson. Not bad at all, IMHO.

Saw Kelly with Foreigner a few weeks ago and he kicked major ass live. He is great on their new CD as well, but I was more impressed by him live than any other replacement singer I've heard. He is an excellent front man that can flat out sing. Had the crowd going from the first song on.

My sister was there and made the comment that Journey should have considered him. My reply was that I wasn't sure how he would sound doing their material. Seems to be a perfect fit for Foreigner though. Very impressive.

Because it is..or should be.
What's with overbearing over the hill big nosed singers with strange made up medical problems (not talking about Lou Gramm) thinking its about them?

I don't think Kelly could have ever been a Journey frontman, it's just not his natural range. Not only because of the catalog but for the fact that Kelly is a guy who seems to have band leader potential. Journey's already got two guys running the band, a third wheel might not be wanted at this point. Foreigner has been bouncing around all over local shows the last year and Hansen is just as much at the helm as Mick is, even more so. If you had never heard of Foreigner before, watching an interview, you would assume that Kelly and Mick are co-leaders of the band. I don't think that would fly in the Journey camp, not to mention no rags to riches backstory that could be milked for 3+ years.
Where Kelly really shines is on stage. The guy reminds me of the Rock Stars of Old, his presence is great and he exudes confidence in front of the crowd. Compared to other replacement singers, he is a pro among amateurs.

Since Herbie "built the band around Schon".. . I think its OK for Neil to think that....

He sounds pretty good, but no where near the original. Whoever is playing guitar sounds pretty damn good though.

there is some amount of truth to this, especially since Hansen has been around for a long time. I figured one of these bands would get him. Foreigner picked the best singer they could have gotten.

Kelly actually had a Top 40 hit with Hurricane back in the day.

"The one glitch in the night was that guitar player Neal Schon still believes that every song must have a guitar solo. He's an incredible player, but watching him was like peeking through a keyhole; he was so engrossed in his own self-pleasure that, at times, the audience seemed incidental."

Yeah, like the opinion of some music critic is going to be valid. The bands she listens to probably don't have a guitarist capable of playing one. In 30-some shows I've never seen a crowd that wasn't into Neal's playing. No guitarist has ever been about playing for the song than Schon. The new solo added to Open Arms last tour certainly added something to a song I was sick to death of hearing live.

It was in parts, but pretty solid in others. No way that should have been released though.
