Myspace and music critics began building a list of 25 nominations for each category earlier this year.

Fans were then encouraged to vote for their favourites online, so Top Tens could be determined.

Myspace Content Manager, Dan Stapleton, said the results have highlighted the wide taste in music.

“These results demonstrate just how diverse Myspace’s user base is, and highlights Myspace as an entertainment destination that caters to all tastes in music,” he said.

Wow, how times have changed. There was a time that Led Zeppelin would have been at the top of that list not at the bottom.

Out of the groups listed, I don't have a problem with AC/DC taking the nod. It's not like they haven't been around long enough, paid their dues, and have created a ton classic rock music.

my guess is that this is a very un-scientific vote-as-many-times-as-you-want poll, which often leads to some VERY skewed results. Typically, whoever gets the message posted for the diehard fans to see gets a rash of votes by people with nothing better to do, and the ratings for that artist skyrocket.

I'm thinking the numbers reflect the demography of Myspace users. I think it's younger people for the most part that make up that site. There are quite a few musicians both professional and amateur that are members there also so if they participated in the voting, that might give us a kaleidoscope view on what modern artists envision as the best in their own career field.

that's also a possibility. What is currently topping the charts tends to get an over-inflated ranking, as will age of users tending to skew votes.

ACDC... good choice for #1... but only reason is that they were the sound track to Iron Man... otherwise, that crowd would have had Nirvana #1.

It has about as much merit as "Myspace is the best social networking site in the world"
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

With the ability to have votes from 200 million members, I'd give MySpace more credibility than 95% of the other music polls I have seen posted here and other places (with the possible exception of Facebook). Even if only 10% voted, that still gives you 10 to 100 times more chances of getting a viable sample than almost any other music site out there.

I sense the same poll bias as the 1936 Literary Digest Poll.

Definitely younger to pick Lady Gaga and Pink over Madonna and to pick ColdPlay over U2. LOL I love ColdPlay but they're considered a poor man's U2.

ONLY if the poll is limited to being able to only vote once. Otherwise, all bets are off. You are still skewed by age regardless.

Wow, I think the surprise here is that people still use MySpace.
