Hey, all...

"Sixteen Candles" was on VH1 over the weekend.

It got me thinking....I've seen this movie like umpteen times....but I still love & watch it.
...as I do with all things from that era....

So, I ask you:

 What is it about the 80s - ANYthing: Music, TV shows, Movies, etc - that draws YOU in?

you have the floor... 8)

I think it was a unique time in music, so many vocalist with multi octave ranges, at the time we may have taken it
for granted, Perry, Wilson, Pat, Delp, Deyoung, on and on, these were freaks of nature , as much as I appreciate
the previous generations of singers, the eighties brought us a range of talent that likely will never be seen again..!

THANK YOU, RAY!!

On a side note.....

In the movie, "Risky Business", Tom Cruise's friend (played by Curtis Armstrong) was named "Curtis Dalby"....Dalby is my Maiden Name.

Nice to know that my name was mentioned in this movie, and with "After The Fall", my favorite Journey song....which was ALSO in this movie.

I think it is simply that it's the era we grew up in. Your most formative cultural years seem to be between 12 and 18. The things you experience during that time will stick with you for the rest of your life. It's scary to think what the kids of today will be nostalgic for in 30 years.

Miami Vice was the ultimate 80's TV show. 8) From the opening bars of Jan Hammer's theme song to the cars, the hair, the clothes, the cocaine & the music it just screams 80"s.

Not to mention Don Johnson...sigh! He doesn't scream 80's he was just good to look at.

Jan Hammer's music = awesome.

I'm one of the select few who loves Jan's fusion, AOR/rock, AND soundtrack work!

Except for the fact, except for Pat Benetar, ALL of those singers were from the 70's.

I liked the first two seasons, but the novelty wore off quickly...I'd say Moonlighting has it trumped by a LONG way, IMO.

Nope, Benatar was from the '70s, too, technically speaking.

Her debut, In The Heat Of The Night, came out in 1979. So obviously she was active before that.

Everybody working in the early-mid '80s was a '70s artist in my book, because that's when they obviously started plying their craft.

The funniest case is probably Zebra, whose 1983 eponymous debut was Atlantic's biggest selling debut (250K copies moved the first week) for the time. But Zebra had been around as long as Triumph, their Canadian trio counterpart with albums dating back to '76!!

This reminds me of this seriously dumb, semi-snobbish remark a high school friend made one time. He said I preferred artists (like Rush) who dated back to the '70s, while he "was more into" '80s bands, as though I was stuck in some sort of time warp. Not only was this total bullshit, but some of his favorite bands included The Police, Devo, and Bauhaus...duhhhhhh! What a dumbshit.

ONLY the first two seasons? Short attention span, dude? Moonlighting was one overrated sitcom.

I didn't say Miami Vice was the best 80's TV show. I just think it really captures the time the best. My favorite 80's show is Magnum PI.

I'll continue Monker's patented douch nuggetness to another level. Aren't they "from" the time they were born? They're all from the 50's and 60's!
