Seriously...There are a couple of bad songs but at least they went in a more progressive direction with a couple of the songs there, particularly "Rainmaker". There's some astounding axework there from Steve Morse.

It's not even one of my favorite Kansas albums, either, for that matter but it is fun to smack you around with it once in a while.

ANYTHING from them from "Song for America" through "Monolith" is a classic, in my opinion. I also consider "Somewhere to Elsewhere" in that category.

My fav Kansas album.

i remember hearing Play That Game Tonight..off of Vinyl Confessions 1982 .. .. a real great tune.. i bought the album.. it was terrible.. just the worst .. i dont get it even today .. one listenable tune..

Livgren was in a rut writing-wise....and the Elefante bros. were penning crap-ass soft rock....but to be fair, Monolith and Audio-visions(much better than Monolith) weren't exactly up to Leftoverture/PoKR status either.....

I would say that there are more than ONE listenable tune on that release: Play the Game, Crossfire, Chasing Shadows

and from Drastic Measures, the other Elefante debacle: Fight Fire with Fire and Everybody's My Friend are decent tracks....

Power was great, In the Spirit of things is growing on me, and Freaks of Nature is an absolute piece of crap, save for Black Fathom Four

Always Never the Same is more copycat accompanied by a symphony stuff....every band was doing that around that time...Somewhere to Elsewhere was back in the right destination...

Kansas thru Two For the Show is the classic Kansas era...two best voices of the 70s were Walsh and RJD....bar NONE.

We disagree here again...I love "I Can Fly", the title track, and "Cold Grey Morning".

Walsh's voice in the 70s was excellent...He had ALL the range of Perry, if not more, and clear as a bell without a sign of strain even on the highest notes.

It's certainly not a great album but besides "Play the Game Tonight", both "Chasing Shadows" and "Crossfire" are excellent tunes as well. In my opinion, "Drastic Measures" was a far worse album.

Yeah, both of those Streets albums were pretty good, in my opinion. There's a good live version of that song on a "King Biscuit Flower Hour" release.

Steve Walsh's solo efforts are also great music. Schemer-Dreamer, and Glossolalia are classic.

Ok....you guys got me all jacked up on Kansas tonight!

Just popped in the Kansas show from Topeka '09...and I gotta say I much prefer Steinhardt on violin (also his vocals on Miracles out of Nowhere crushes Greer's)...Having Livgren sit in on guitar for Hold On was awesome....I thought he should have stayed out there for more songs. Not having Elefante sit in for Fight Fire with Fire was a mistake...he OWNS that song.

Walsh's voice is totally toast...it is a shame. Although much better than his 90s voice, it seems strained 99% of the time.

Device Voice Drum is a better show, I believe....and the Omaha, NE show from '82 (Live Confessions)is even better - even though there is no Walsh. I have since lost that show, and wish I could find another copy...

Kansas is one of those bands that COMPLETELY ignores their fans by holding back vintage shows from the 70s....something from Leftoverture Tour, and PoKR would be EPIC for us fans.....
