Childress fired by Vikings; Frazier named interim head coach

The Minnesota Vikings have fired head coach Brad Childress.

The team announced the decision Monday morning.

Assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

The team released the following statement Monday:

"The Minnesota Vikings have relieved Brad Childress of his head coaching duties. Leslie Frazier has been named Interim Head Coach and will serve in that capacity for the remainder of the season," the statement read.

"Vikings Owner/Chairman Zygi Wilf and Leslie Frazier will address the media at 3:00 p.m. CT today in the Winter Park fieldhouse."

The Vikings fell to 3-7 this year after a lopsided loss to rival Green Bay on Sunday, the final blow to Childress in his fifth season in charge of the team.

The 31-3 loss was his most-lopsided home defeat as head coach, dropping his overall record to 40-37, including a 1-2 mark in the playoffs.

The NFL is dragging out this thing with the text messages, now bringing in Cellphone forensics. It's like they are giving Favre the chance to end his streak on his own before they do it themselves. Even if it's the last game of the season, I think that streaks ends one way or the other.

That's exactly what they're doing. The league are Favre ball washers like every media outlet in the country. It's fucking shameless. Ultimately, with the appeals process, it probably wouldn't matter much, because the season would be over before a suspension was ever handed down. I just think given how horrendous Favre has been this season, it's time for the Vikings to move on. If it were any other QB, the guy would have been benched a month ago! The one angle to look out for here is that I still think the Vikings have some talent. It's not out of the realm of an NFL team to completely tank it to get a coach they hate (and it's well documented that most of the players are open about how much they despised Childress) fired. Don't be surprised if all of a sudden the Vikings look like a viable NFL team over the final month of the season. It certainly won't matter in terms of them getting into the playoffs, but it will certainly make people wonder if they weren't intentionally sandbagging it.

Gunbot and John, I completely agree with both of you assholes. The NFL and in particular, Goodell, is smart, and he isn't going to risk any potentially bad PR by bringing the hammer down on OG., Look, we all know OG is guilty of sending a pictext of him in his crocs and nothing else, but Goodell also knows Favre will be gone after years end. Why not just stall it out a few more weeks?

As for on the field, I have to say I saddened by OG's recent play. I still hope dude catches fire and leads the team to a bunch of wins. There is just something about that guy that I think is manly. Dude plays hurt, plays with more passion than anyone in the league, and plays for the love of the game.
