Who saw it this past weekend? I thought it was to-the-book excellent.

Thoughts?

very faithful to the book--maybe almost to a fault. Anyone that isn't familiar with the last few movies (or at minimum, Half-Blood Prince) might as well stay home, as they will be lost from the beginning. It doesn't make any concessions to bring those up to speed. I think it was a smart idea to can the 3D conversion. It's dark enough visually as is--putting 3D on it, would be it unwatchable in places.

Biggest problem is that regardless of what you do, it feels like half a movie. The screenwriter had a massive problem with the book. Too much for one movie without cutting a bunch....and not really enough for two movies. They've got their work cut out for them to have some of the part 2 stuff make sense.

All things said and done, it's done well (and is a LONG way from being a kids movie by any stretch of the imagination), but I think it would have been smarter to hold it off a bit, and release part 1 in the summer and part 2 at Christmas. Waiting until July for part 2 will be a task.

Saw it over the weekend and loved it. Hated it ended there! Sucks to have to wait until next summer for part 2.

Yeah not a super little kid movie, but my 9 year old is on book 3 and has seen all the other movies and he did fine with this one.
