Huge Johnny Depp fan here, and a huge Lone Ranger fan. Turns out Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer are adapting the Lone Ranger for film, and Johnny Depp is playing... TONTO!!!! I hope to God they know what they are doing, because it could be freakin' awesome if handled correctly.

Depp is on the list of Self-identified people of Cherokee ancestry, those who claim some Cherokee ancestry but are not enrolled any of the three Cherokee tribes.
WHICH TRANSLATES TO:
"I'm not sure if I am of Native American Blood but it sure sounds cool telling people I'm part Cherokee and might lead to me getting a killer role in any cool westerns coming out."

I would like to see Eric Schweig in the role. Thought he was great as Uncas in "Last Of The Mohicans"

Well, he did play an Indian in The Brave (which I still have left to see -- don't want the chopped up version).

True, they story goes that he had a real attitude in the bar that night. The info on him after the film is so minimal, and I've tried several times to find out whatever happened to him. A few years ago somebody actually got some attention by listing him in the credits of their film as a sound guy or something like that, and there just aren't that many Klinton Spilsburys around, lol. I'd have to look to find the details again.

I've also been keeping an eye out for a freakin' DVD of that film, and keep running dry. Even picked one up with the same title and using that movie cover, only to find it was the original pilot for the Clayton Moore TV version. Those all seem to be in the public domain, and you can find many different distributors selling cheapie packages of some of the episodes. I totally grew up watching that. As for the film, I didn't absolutely hate it, but it was just very slow and boring -- the pacing was horrible. But nothing sucked as bad as that stupid TV pilot they did a few years back (I think it was WB network) -- good lord I hated that.

I also have an original Lone Ranger TV serial, but had a hard time getting into it because I'm just so used to the classic look. In that early serial he wore a bandana like a bandit.

Genius! I also recently read that Depp & Tim Burton will be teaming up again to film Dark Shadows based on the 70's TV show of the same name. Depp will be playing the vampire, Barnabas Collins.
