Will American Idol Flop w/Steven Tyler?

(In case you weren't aware, the new lineup of judges for next year's American Idol is Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson.)

I think it would be better with Steven Tyler and Paula Abdul instead of JayLo. Then we could laugh at both of them for being stoned on the set. You know Steven Tyler is a drughead unless he is in rehab, so I look forward to watching him make an ass out of himself and others while he is blitzed out of his mind. I would watch the show just to see that.

But, the big question remains: Can it survive without the controversial figure (Simon Cowell) who made it so famous?

I'm guessing their audience will start out strong (80% of last year's audience), but then wane to about 50% of last year's audience by the end of the season - unless something really outrageous happens. Steven Tyler will be the deciding factor as to whether the audience walks away or runs away.

If you don't care, you don't need to rip the thread and say how gay it is to watch AI. But if you want to do that, it's okay. I like to see meltdowns of any nature - they are entertaining.

Despise everything about the show, so much so that I didn't even tune in when Ann and Nancy were on it.

They should have put Kanye West on the show if they wanted some controversy. Kanye and Steven Tyler - now that would be a fucking riot! Kanye would probably end up trying to take the award back from the winner!

If it DOES flop - will it be Tyler's fault?
I don't think so.

The show has burned itself out.

I think that people want to see another Adam Lambert. That won't happen for years,if ever. It will not have anything to do with Steven Tyler or Simon.

I'm not sure of the relevance of the show if the winner goes on to obscurity - out of all of the winners and finalists over the years, only Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, and Jennifer Hudson seem to have translated the exposure into a successful career. The jury is out on Adam Lambert - he is very talented, but he made some poor choices, like that cheesy album cover. Even in the digital age when they are no longer works of art, packaging still matters.

If the show is going to continue, someone will have to take Simon's place as the heavy and I'm not sure anyone will be able to do that in quite the same way. If it doesn't work out, I don't think anyone can blame one of the new judges. Will it be Jennifer Lopez or Steven Tyler as the new tough guy? My money is on J. Lo.

You guys are getting stuck with X Factor aren't you?

Who are the judges on that?
I assume Simon is one of them now he's left American Idol?

You left out the one with the greatest success: Carrie Underwood. :?

You didn't like Kelly Clarkson? I thought she was and is great. Put on some lbs, but that's ok. Ann Wilson is a disgusting hog, and Aretha Franklin has to travel by boxcar, but those two can sing. Kelly isn't that far gone yet, she still can make it if she develops some self discipline.

Sherri, been meaning to ask you, aren't you the gal who lives in BC but hates the Canucks? I said it last week, but maybe you didn't see it- I think you are the most mysterious member on here. At least to me you are. Don't ask me why, but something about you really intrigues me to no end. Maybe because you are a Canadian gal, or maybe because you have Shania in your avatar. I know, it sounds completely gay and stupid....I just can't figure you out.

I like Kelly Clarkson, but she isn't one of my favourites. No, I would never say I hate the Canucks - I never really get into sports threads and if I were going to hate on a hockey team, it would be one from south of the 49th parallel when they take the Stanley Cup. I don't think I'm much of a mystery, so it probably is the Shania avatar - sorry.

Oh Sherri, don't be sorry. I just realized it is Triple S I think her name is...She is a BC person who likes the Flames(Hahaha, the joke's on her eh?). Anyway, don't mind me and my questiuons. I have serious issues. I am pretty fucked up.

I just don't care how much talent a singer has. If he/she doesn't sing in the genres I listen to, it doesn't mean jack schit.

Nikki McKibbin was my girl. Her record label fucked her over.

Kelly Clarkson had potential with 'My December.' She should've explored that aspect a little more with better songwriters.

But it was also the record label. They wanted her to do country music. She wanted to be a rocker. She fought the label for years trying to break out of her record deal. Killed her career...I don't even know if she ever did release her album as there was a rumor she had worked on one a few years after.

Hmmm - coulda sworn when I was walking around downtown the other day, I saw someone who looked very much like Shania

And Dean - shut it about the Flames - there's still hope. It's bad enough I have to put up with all the Canucklehead men at work on a daily basis ('course loading up my team in the office hockey pool with Flames this year probably wasn't the best idea  ) And I'm not a 'BC person', never will be - I just live here
