Is anyone here using AVG Anti Virus?

I have been using AVG for almost a year now but after the last update Win Vista won't start. I had to use system restore to get back up.
Everything was fine last night until it updated again, then same thing, so I can say with 100% certainty that it's AVG's last update causing
all the trouble. I've contacted AVG, but fuck em, I'm looking for a new Anti Virus software. Anyone else had this problem?

I use their free version on my Vista laptop. Its updated regularly and no probs experienced so far.

Haven't tried AVG, but I have had this same problem with Norton in the past. Have been using McAfee for a while now and have had no such problems.

I'm dumping Vista soon. It's what my new Dell Studio laptop came with. I just hate buying operating system software.

Yeah, Susie, that is how I got it up and running last time. I've since uninstalled AVG and just installed McAfee. It's updated and is scanning now, so should be ok now. Thanks.

I've been using that free AVAST for a couple years too now, thanks to you and Rick and some others here that recommended it in a thread awhile back. Haven't had any issues with it either.

I've got two identical PC's here that continually choke on the new AVG 2011 update. I've done a System Restore on both of them, but a week later the problems persist! If anyone has a fix I would LOVE to hear it! Computers are less than a year old, lots of RAM, etc.

I swear by Vaseline. Stuff is so realistic to a fresh lubricated pussy it isn't funny. Cleanup however is tricky. If you forget to bring a hand towel to the terminal, then you find yourself waddling to the bathroom with petroleum jelly coating your right hand and your pants and undies down around your ankles. makes for an awkward scene to be sure. I have experienced this on more than one occasion.

Last nights update breaks Vista and Windows 7, its posted on slashdot.org.

Apparently so. I got this in a bulletin today and it describes the problem:

It has been reported that some machines are unable to boot after the last AVG 2011 update, version 3292. We recommend not rebooting/shutting down machines that have AVG 2011 installed.

Please note that both AVG Pro and AVG Free can be impacted. Older AVG versions (9.0, 8.5) are not affected.

The issue has been caused by an incorrect CTF file used during the update (AVG 9.0 core has been offered to AVG 2011 clients). However, AVG is currently working on a solution for all affected users, both those who have not restarted their computers and those who were already affected by the BSOD.

The FAQ’s will be updated as soon as the fix is ready. Please consult with your IT staff so they can disable automatic updates until AVG has a new release which corrects this issue. They can follow the steps mentioned in the FAQ’s or contact the AVG Support team if your machine does not boot.

Good luck, Chief! I have been very happy using the free version of Avast. AVG keeps getting more sluggish IMO, and the one PC I encountered with 2011 on it was so unresponsive that I had to remove it just to work on that system.

I use the free Avast, and have been for years. Personally, I run from McAfee and Norton. They're both resource hogs. Avast is more-so with this newest version, but still nothing like the other two. However, if I were to buy antivirus, it would be BitDefender or Kaspersky.

Have you uninstalled any other anti-virus your machines may have come with? Sometimes multiple anti-viruses fight each other and cause slowdowns...
