What's the nicest thing you've done for someone?

All the bad things listed in Deano's thread got me thinking... it might be better to hear the GOOD things we've done for our fellow man (or woman). I like to help others, and unfortunately I've been seriously burned by it. I have to say though, that I think all good deeds are returned. The thing I think I did that was my nicest (and most stupid) act, was I bought an engagement ring for my Brother-In-Law to give to his girlfriend.

He was my best friend at the time, and had been dating this same girl for years. We were eating lunch one day and he says "man I want to marry her so much! She makes me happier than I've ever been, and I just thought this morning about asking her to marry me". I asked him when he was going to do it. He said he wanted to do it that Friday night for some reason (can't recall), because it was some important night to them. He said if he didn't propose that night, then he would wait until the following year. He said he didn't have the money for the ring.

I asked him if I went with him and got him the ring, how long it would take for him to pay me back. At the time, he was a contractor, and he could literally make $3000-$4000 dollars off of one job in 2 or 3 days. He said he could pay me back within a couple of weeks at the latest! So we go to 3 or 4 jewelers that day until he found the perfect ring. That perfect ring was $2100. I have perfect credit, so I got a personal loan from our bank and didn't give it a second thought.

I ended up getting a payment from him of $300 about a month later, and was so furious about the whole thing, that I didn't speak to him for nearly a year. I finally out of desperation asked him to give me at least HALF of what he owed, and I'd forget about the rest. He paid me half, and we have become friends again. We'll never be close like we were in the past, but we do hang out from time to time. I just can't fathom how people can have stuff like that hanging over them and it not bother them. :?

The worst part is that they broke up, and she wouldn't give us the ring back!

I may have been a complete dumbass, but I think that was my greatest act of kindness. Live and learn! Let me hear your stories! :D

about fifteen years ago i was working with a friend and he lost 150 dollars in my car after we cashed our check.an hour or so later he was upset on the phone calling me asking me to look and i found it.i easily could've lied and kept it.i then drove an hour to where he lived just to give him his money.his parents didn't care too much for me before that happened for some reason but afterwards they loved me to death.afterwards i even lived with them for months when i had nowhere to go and i think when i did that good deed later on it came back to me when i was able to have a place to rest when i had nowhere to go.i do believe in if you do good deeds they will be returned.

We were given really great tickets for the Journey show in 2008. We had already bought tickets for the show that were O.K. We planned to give them to someone once we received the better tickets at will call. As we stood there, the show sold out. A dad, a mom and a young boy were standing there. The dad was consoling the young boy for not getting to see the show. We walked over and gave them three tickets for free. Share the love I always say! You should have seen the kids face! :D I have done other things too, but I kind of feel silly talking about them. Since this is Journey related, I thought I would share! :D Thank you L and J for the tickets! We had a blast!

Very cool story, and I agree with you Mike. When you do right by others, it comes back. Maybe not that day, but maybe when you least expect it to. I also think it applies to those who do people wrong. Karma's a hell of a thing.

I try to do things anonymously so if I tell, it won't be anonymous will it?

But, I will share a story that happened just last week. At the end of each school term my father in law pays my kids for their grades. He saves all of his coins for months and months and for my little girls if they get good grades he just gives them all of the coins and they get to split them-they usually end up with $30-40 each. My girls had just gotten paid for their grades and my in laws also wanted to go out for pizza. When we got to the restaurant my girls wanted to use some of their quarters in the "grab a stuffed animal" machine. There was a little girl playing the game and really trying to get a certain teddy bear. After a few tries her parents told her she had to stop (I'm sure she'd already spent at least $5 trying for this bear). One of my little girls went up and on the first try she won the bear! Without hesitation she immediately took it over and gave it to the little girl. Within a few minutes, my other daughter won another animal and again, without hesitating she took it to the same girl. The little girl ended up leaving with her family and my girls continued to play. By the end of the night they won about 6 more animals (they are very good at this game!) and gave all but two of them away to other childrenin the restaurant. I was so proud of my little ladies!!!

I do to, but I had to do something to counteract with Dean's thread.  I figured it would do me some good to hear of some GOOD deeds that people have done.

That's a very cool story about your daughters, and they obviously learned that from a good mother. Thanks for sharing that.

My nicest comes in the billions worth of tiny droves. I'm that person that trys to do good and be the do-gooder every day in every situation and make people feel like 1,000 bucks. Everyday I'm doing little things that amount to long-time monumental genuine-ness that everyone always notices and appreciates. I sort of hold that reputation.

Just yesterday morning, I was doing my morning commute and was called in to make some stops at post-offices to deliver holiday gifts. Turns out, it was a very old woman who I delivered to before and always made it known to make me feel appreciated and feel good about my good delivering service (I always went above and beyond to put her packages in her apartment home which was a pain because it was a weird setup.) She ended up giving me a 20$ tip and I thanked her and went about my business. I had to deliver back to her and she handed me an envelope that had my name on it and I just put it in my pocket. When I got home, I opened it up to see another 20$ bill. I knew I couldn't accept it since she must of got it mixed up or forgot since she's so old. It bothered me throughout the day, so I woke up this morning and drove 45 minutes out to her house personally to return her 20$. Things like that make it worth it for me for being kind and honest.

John: That's hilarious, haha. 8)

I hear a song in there somewhere! Very cool for you and your wife Rip. I've been married ever since 1994, and it's the best decision I've ever made in my life! We're both very happy, and we get along better than any other couple we've been around. We still laugh at each other every day, and still hold hands when we're out and about. DAMN I love this woman! :D
