I don't get it...

Okay, so the freak that shot everybody is pleading not guilty.
Tell me- WHY do we go through this when everyone saw he pulled the trigger. He was filmed pulling the trigger. There were witnesses that say "he pulled the trigger".

This makes absolutely no sense. The guy will sit for years on death row and this will deter NO ONE from doing something like this again.

While I totally get "Innocent until proven guilty"- how can someone be innocent when EVERYONE saw him do it?

If it's going to be "by reason of insanity" - fine, next day we say "yer nuts and yer going away forever". Instead, we will drag this out for YEARS.

I don't understand why we do this with the justice system.

I said this in the other thread about this case, and while I know they would never do it, just think of the effect it would have on someone even remotely thinking of doing something like this again. I say chain this asshole to a telephone poll, allow all the cameras to roll, set his ass on fire, and let him burn to a crisp, and I doubt this shit would be happening anymore. Not out in the open like that. Not where innocent bystanders and specifically a 9 year old girl get killed. It sounds and is cruel, but a little bit of that would go a long way. If burning that asshole at the stake would save one or two lives down the road, or a dozen, isn't it worth it? Or am I just being barbaric? Nothing they are doing right now is deterring anything.

They know that if they go down for it, they won't feel a thing when the time comes anyway. A needle stick, big fucking deal. Pain is incredibly convincing. Nothing is worse than burning to death, and I don't think many people would mind seeing him check out like that.

haha, no, it just boggles my mind that everyone knows the guy did it, but we have to spend a ton of dough, and more importantly, have him around for the next 25 years (at least) while he exhausts all of his appeals. Just doesn't make sense to me and it certainly doesn't deter the next jackknob from doing it. However, if next week they said "Yup, we've got footage. We've got witnesses. The guy is guilty. Case closed" and then he got what's coming to him, I think others might go "Um, yeah, I will think twice". Maybe not...

Rick, I don't agree with you there, but to drag things out for years is just stupid. By the time the guy gets what's coming to him, most people will have forgotten what he did in the first place... not forgotten, but you know.

What I don't understand is, he railed against the government and now he wants to hide the very system he claimed he hated.

Palin, Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh made him do it so the guilt is not necessarily his, the Sheriff of Pima County, Az said so, I say let him walk.

Just because these idiots are going off and inciting unstable folks doesn't mean we should believe them or act on what they say. (whether they are right, left, upside down, whatever). Personally, I can't believe it didn't happen sooner.
