Anyone else going to the M3 Festival this year?

Awesome line up! Looks like it's THE festival to be at this summer. In the US anyways! 8)

 If I wasn't already going to be seeing their April show (1st US show in over 15 years, longer show, smaller venue :D ), I'd actually contemplate it. :) Wouldn't have minded seeing Tesla and Whitesnake too, not a bad lineup at all.

How recent have you seen Tesla? Is JK still sounding kinda screechy/scratchy? Eric's gritty rock vocals have held up way better than Jeff's. But gawd I loved me some JK rock vocals back in the day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2pYCz6hI-I

Tesla....there's another band in the same vein as Mr. Big, boring as all fuck. Couldn't write a decent song to save their lives....

I saw them 2-3 years ago at the Nokia (now Best Buy) Theatre in Manhattan and they were fantastic! From what I understand, Jeff had been laying off the alcohol and it definitely showed in his performance... Outstanding!

Saw them years before that at the Beacon Theater, when Tommy Skeoch was still with them, and Jeff and Tommy were completely wasted. Jeff had a huge cooler filled with cans of beer right on stage next to Brian's drum kit and he was pounding them down one after the other during the show. I left the show very disappointed, so I was apprehensive about seeing them again, but very glad I went to the Nokia show, because they reaffirmed to me that night of what a fantastic band they were and still are. I absolutely adore Frankie Hannon's playing, too.

I would SO love to go to this show, but I will have to wait and see if my husband finds a damned job before then.

I saw them in '88, or '89 with Poison and Faster Pussycat, in Portland, ME. They sucked back then, too!

I disagree. But saying that, when you got some killer vocals and killer musicianship, they could be singing about toilet paper and I'd still enjoy the hell out of it much more than somebody with just an average voice and half-assed musicianship singing a well-written song. But both are hard rockin talented bands, not bubblegum candyass syrupy 'rock', so I wouldn't expect you or Dean, etc. to like either one. :P I know for a fact both have well-written songs too, so you can throw out the 'can't write a decent song" card all you want.......LOL, no biggie. I like my rock a little crunchy.......and Journey/REO types, etc. just haven't been doing it for me lately. And MR BIG easily sounds just as good now as they ever have. :D

Now now,,, Mr Big has some good songs,( like "To be with you" :P ) ,but sorry, Tesla lacks in all departments. sucky ass singer, crappy lyrics and pisspoor performance.... Parfait might enjoy their shows ;)

It was quite a few years ago now, almost 10 I think? He didn't sound awesome or anything, lol, he's always had that scratchy kind of voice  But the show was fun!

So, did all 5 of them come at you boys at the same time, or did they take turns? :P

I've never seen Tesla live, but my favorite vocal tone of his is back on that Little Suzi clip I posted above. From the youtubes I've checked out over the years, JK seems to get more chipmunky vocally as time goes on.......not soulful as EM has. Hopefully somebody going to this festival can catch some vid of each and share it. :)

LOL, Tesla's drummer used be in the Eric Martin Band way back in the day too....... yellow shorts in first pic, next to Jeff in the second.

Yeah I do remember hearing more recent clips on here and that IS what he sounded like! I've never been a huge diehard fan or anything, but like some of their songs. They have a great tribute one to Steve Clark from Def Leppard, and supposedly one of Steve's guitars given to the band was played on the song. One of those songs that starts out quiet but builds pretty big. It's good:

Deb, this guy's got a bunch of videos from the NYC show I was at in 2007 (do a search on his channel). The sound is not so great, but you only have to watch Jeff to see how sober he was here. LOL!

Jeff's voice is an acquired taste, but it works so well with the band's style.

Oh fuck you! You telling me Bruce has "syrupy" music? Journey for sure, Bruce, not at all.

 Fuck you too! Didn't mention Bruce at all, no he doesn't have syrupy music. Average voice, yes IMO. And before you come at me with......"Bruce can throw down a song with more passion than anyone". Sure he can deliver the hell out of a song, and he's a great songwriter, but his vocal tone does absolutely nothing for me. Bob Dylan is a great songwriter too, but I can't stand to listen to him.

Where's the 'like' button???

Dylan's and Springsteen's voices are very hard for me to listen to... They both sound like they're trying to force one out.

Saw this 2009 clip this guy posted. Wow! Jeff starts out vocally ok, but within seconds he is in full-on chipmunk mode. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQPAJZiYl44

Loved his gritty raw vocal tone on it years ago though..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avAvkdYa3qM

That's the trouble with that type of smokey vocals though, it can go one of two ways with age, either squeaky/chipmunky or raspy/soulful.
