I'm watching the VH1 "100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs" right now.
It's really sad to see such acts as Blue Oyster Cult playing "area Fairs", etc...

I thought that these people had that whole "financial thing" handled.

My question is....

 Are Rock Stars THAT UNINFORMED - financially- about HOW TO HANG ON TO YOUR $#!T????

...or, are we in reeeeeaaaly bizarre times, money-wise....?

Discuss. 8)

I guess they all need Financial Advisors, or something.

For real, I think it's kinda sad that they think they're "invincible".....

 They're NOT.

With all the "hangers-on", etc...wow....

I wouldn't say it's necessarily a matter of money. For the most part, their style of music isn't as popular anymore so where else to they have to play really? If they still love to play and want to keep doing it, that's pretty much what they have to pick from.

I agree with Dave on this. And remember, Journey played some fairs too. I think Blue Oyster Cult is playing anywhere that will have them, because they play for the music, not the money. :D

In general, yes. It doesn't take much when you think about it. Especially when you're talking about someone who's really young (late teens, early twenties) who think the gravy train is going to last forever. It's very likely they never see most of the money they make when you figure, what, 40% or so comes off the top for taxes. Managers get their 10-20%. Record companies claw back a certain amount. They have to pay their staff/crew. Throw in a couple of unconscionable contracts, a house in the Hollywood Hills, couple of cars, couple of really good parties, and voila!...BANKRUPTCY!...and we won't even count the gold diggers and other unsavory characters...
