Battle over gun permit privacy in Illinois

Postby Rip Rokken » Fri Mar 04, 2011 2:01 am

Not surprising in our world… the Illinois Attorney General ruled that the list of people with gun permits be made public after a reporter from the AP requested the information under the FOA act, along with the type of guns each person is allowed to own. The police are thus far refusing to release the list.

“But the state police, who safeguard that information, resisted as lawmakers and others raised privacy concerns. Critics questioned what public interest it would serve to let neighbors look up each other's potential weapons cache -- further, they warned that publicizing the information could put both gun owners and those who don't own guns at risk.“

Idiots... I respect the P.D. for keeping the info private for now.

I was hoping you'd see this, hahahahaha! Hey, if it happens there, those types of issues will generally start spreading like a disease...

Archetype, in the spirit of full disclosure and cooperation, I think we should offer the public an inventory of our personal defense arsenals. You first.

It'll be great for criminals to KNOW who does and doesn't have a gun or guns in their house! Fuck it, just give them the keys, too!

Hmmmm...this is no different than advertising that a hosehold has a security system, or that a vehicle has lo-jack. People have no problem putting that sticker, or 'real estate-looking' sign on their lawn saying they have ADT, or that 'Insert lame ficticious sounding security company name here' is protecting your house.....

I'm completely for all forms of gun control, but the way the 'net works these days, this does seem like a recipe for criminal cherry-picking. It's shit like this that fucks up the whole debate.

People without guns would be extremely vulnerable ... especially single women and elderly people. And that ain't right.

People who are anti-gun should be more upset over something like this.... it will encourage more gun ownership. If I lived there, alone, and such a list became public, I sure as hell would buy one to get my name on that list!

But nobody would break into my house to steal my security system. Guns are high-theft items. And a gun cannot deter against home invasion if the owner isn't there to put it to use -- the security system can.

Ok, me first.... here's my latest, and it's a work in progress. I needed something to protect me from car-jacking, and once I run it thru Splash Car Wash and a quick trip to Jiffy Lube, it should be ready to go.

Image

I have a couple of these mounted on my roof, to defend both the front and back doors from door-to-door solicitors. Yes, that includes the Girl Scouts.

Image

This is how I get to and from work these days. Rush hour has become a nightmare here, and the vertical take-off and landing capabilities make this vehicle indispensable. The only problem is, $3+ gas right now is killing me. Plus, I save money taking my lunch to work.

When I do venture forth in the Ripmobile, I hitch this onto the back and it's proven very effective against tailgaters:

Absolutely, and then you double-quoted me! I think this is how great books like the Bible get started, so keep it up. In another 50 years, I'll have my own religion!
