I always heard great things about this show. My favorite all time sit-com was King of Queens with Kevin James. How does Mike and Molly measure up to that show?

Me too! It's my nightly ritual, I get into bed, turn on the TV, set the sleep timer and watch that show...LOVE IT! I usually end up laughing out loud like an idiot all alone in my room.

I pretty much have every single show/season taped on my DVR. The chemistry of the show was incredible and the certain humor Doug/Carey portrayed was a perfect match as well as secondary characters like Arthur and Spence. King of Queens was the show that I laughed out loud from beginning to end. I miss it for sure!

I think King of Queens was funnier...still love watching that! But Mike and Molly is very funny too! I just love the sarcastic chemistry between kevin james and Leah! It made that show! And of course her dad and some of the other side characters

Hahaha, that's hilarious. Couldn't have said it better myself

Now this is a show that could've aired in the '80s.

And I DON'T mean that in a good way.

Mike and Molly is really funny - sharp dialogue and a great ensemble cast. I think the problems on Two and a Half Men may have helped it along, because more episodes were ordered when production shut down on the other. It gave it a chance to find an audience and I hope it sticks around!

Now that I think about it, do the networks even have censors anymore? I watched some old interviews with the cast of The Golden Girls and they noted how they got a lot more topics and comments past the censors because it was a show about older women and a different show probably would not have gotten away with some of the things they did. Nowadays, except for nudity and a few choice words, I'm not sure there are any restrictions.

Mike and Molly was created by Mark Roberts, one of the executive producers of TaaHM, so I think that's why the humour is so similar. That and it seems to work! Every new comedy seems to be following that format of pushing the envelope and one of the dirtiest seems to be Betty White on Hot in Cleveland - she's the Sophia of that show.

Absolutely LOVE King Of Queens ("All In The Family" will forever be my all-time favorite). King Of Queens is soooooo like my marriage, that it's bizarre to watch. Still watch the re-runs. Kevin James is brilliantly funny in that show. Mike and Molly definitely isn't on that level (at least not for me), but it's a well written show. Interestingly enough, Chuck Lorre (Two and a Half Men) is also one of the driving forces behind Mike and Molly.

I've never seen it either. But I loved King of Queens, probably because it reminded me so much of All In The Family (my all time favorite sitcom)... they even had basically the same darn house as Edith and Archie had, except flipped the other way. King of Queens was kind of like Everybody Loves Raymond to me in the respect that it was a lot funnier to me having been through all of those same stupid married situations - Doris Roberts was the best - I actually detested that character because she was so much like my own mother in law ... I never thought Raymond was all that funny until after I got married. The famous 'suitcase episode' is something every single married couple can relate to immediately. King of Queens was the same kind of thing.

AITF is my all-time favorite as well, closely followed by Seinfeld. Both shows were brilliant. I can't watch what I call [i]forced comedy. Shows like Raymond, Home Improvement, KOQ, or any other show that forces the jokes on you. That being said, I think AITF would work today. Stations are the most liberal they've been ever. And truthfully, that show, although brilliant, was 90% the era in which it was shown. It was controversial for the times. Still always going to be my favorite, but it had it's own issues....

While stations may be more "liberal", as you put it, there is a huge difference between letting actors on a sitcom make endless sexual innuendo (think Two and a Half Men), and insulting entire races of people (which All In The Family did on a nightly basis). I guess the only proof I really need to support my theory that a network wouldn't dare put the show on today is that there has never been another show like it, since it went off the air. In the politically correct world we live in today, you would have a bunch of yahoo morons picketing outside whatever network was bold enough to air it.

I figured we'd eventually find out how Ted met the mother of his children ...
in the meantime, Doogie Howser's male slut character is hysterical, sort of

Married with Children has been the closest.

Besides, AITF was social commentary. In the times of the real working man. Nixon/Carter era....I don't think a socially driven sitcom would work today, in general...Nevermind one that sprinkles in off-color haymakers....the dimwits today don't want think about their comedy...they want laid out in the open(read: forced).

Depends on the mother, I guess. My ex mother in law is like that... with her, it's a combination of being the eternal victim of everything anyway, coupled with being divorced with three young kids, 2 of which were boys... as they grew up she relied on them to "replace" her ex-husband... and she used the guilt/victim routine to do so, therefore other women "stepping in" to their lives was always a very big problem for her. It made her always want to exclude anyone that wasn't "family" because she fears her family being "taken away" or her role being usurped. She made it a far bigger challenge than it ever needed to be, the constant passive aggressive behavior, just like "Raymond's" mother. Basically, "I'm da mama, don't cross me".
