Book one of George R.R. Martin's saga,
A Song of Ice and Fire is coming to HBO. Sort of a cross between historical themes (War Of The Roses) and Fiction (Lord Of The Rings). I've been waiting for book five (of seven) for five freakin' years. Hopefully this will tide me over until then.

Perhaps the best fictiion series since Dan Simmons' Hyperion. Fantastic stuff. The next book just came out for pre-order.

Sean Bean Plays Ned Stark. Man, Sean never gets to have a happy ending with any character he portrays.

Anybody else watch the premier tonight???
After reading all of the books to-date,
I can honestly say that I am ABSOLUTELY impressed!
Still wondering how HBO plans on cramming so many storylines
and sub-plots into this w/o confusing the hell out of people,
but this looks to be a very good representation of Martin's Epic tale!!!
Thoughts???
One complaint... Not sure I like the actor they picked for Jaime Lannister... We'll see...

They've had to rework some stuff, just like what happened with LOTR but still a very impressive beginning. Jaime had to be so hard to cast as those familiar with the books know he is such a complex character and the actor has to eventually sell you on a 180° swing later in the series.

.
Funny, when I read books they play like a movie in my mind, so I naturally picture "known actors"portraying all the parts... for Jaime, I "used" a young Rutger Hauer...

I sort of pictured him as a clean shaven, light haired version of Orlando Bloom's
Balian in Kingdom Of Heaven.
