Government shutdown...

How many of you are going to be affected if they shut us down? Just curious. We've been instructed that if it's shut down, we are to continue to work even if it's weeks before it gets approved. We aren't going to get paid until it gets approved though. This is bullshit! Harry Reid has stated that he wants the government to shut down. How the fuck do these people get elected??? :x

You know what's worse than us here working without pay? Think of all the soldiers who are deployed, away from their families, getting shot at every day... for NO PAY!!! Seriously fucked up.

Oh, it'll affect them. it'll affect all of us in some way or another. Shutting the Govt down is probably going to cost this country hundreds of millions of dollars (at LEAST), daily in lost revenues. It's going to affect business owners who rely on business from govt employees. Restaurants, taxi cabs, etc... it goes on and on. :?

Ouch!

According to our latest Leave & Earning Statements online,
it looks like those of us on Active Duty service will be getting
"half a paycheck" next week...

I could survive that for about a month,
and then me & the family would be in dire straights...

Classic ... and true! Hey, I always point out that the dude is a half-breed, but he and and the rest of black America like to throw him in the chocolate pile, so I guess he's black. This might actually prove it, though.

Just my opinion, but I think threats of government shutdowns are just manipulative and selfish drama ploys by people who can't help but put partisan politics ahead of the good of the country. I'm surprised these children aren't on FaceBook tweeting out all this stuff, just like Lindsay Lohan would do.

If you believe this, I have a fucking bridge to sell you.

The GOP is trying to tie in a social issue with the budget because the far-right tea party fringe element is pressuring them - do it or be replaced by a more conservative candidate next election cycle. This is all about the Republicans trying to push an agenda instead of taking care of their constituency.

The new Washington Post poll suggests a shutdown could hurt the public image of Republicans more than Democrats. Sixty-two percent of respondents said they thought Republicans were playing politics while only 31 percent said Republicans were honestly trying to solve the budget impasse. By contrast, 44 percent said they thought the Obama administration was playing politics and 49 percent said the administration was trying to resolve the issue.

A shutdown can only hurt the GOP - and, of course (not that they care) the average American.

Its both sides....61 Billion is like 8 days worth of Interest on the debt. Pennies. They can cut more than that. Broken Record Alert!!!!!! Take a pay cut, Washington....make those seniors eat dogfood!

I'm thinking six monkeys, a llama, and that octopus that was picking sports teams a couple of years ago could run this country better.....

No, it's not both sides. The Democrats have compromised far more than they should have on some issues (nothing unusual there), and the two sides have a basic agreement on the fiduciary component of the budget. The GOP added this wedge issue to attempt to subvert the entire proceeding, but the public knows better and sees right through this facade.

I'd be happy if they shut down the government - so long as it was a minimum of a year. :) Seems the more both sides are sitting in DC the worse off we are.

I know I know - I am being sarcastic - but only a little.

EXACTLY. They'll shut down the government... yet they will all be paid. How about they DON'T get paid until they agree? Our government is broken and has been for years. Our debt is so out of control that we are printing money just to keep up. This basically means it's worth nothing.

Our government and monetary system WILL crash. We are really up the creek.

I don't care what has been compromised....just get it done. Enough already. If I were the Dems, I'd say....alright you want more cuts? Let's cut the defense budget in HALF! Then when they balk at that - they'll look like the fool on the hill.

Agreed. That, and end the Bush Tax Cuts, which the CBO estimates would IMMEDIATELY cut the deficit in HALF.

Of course the Dems are playing hardball too. Screw 'em, too.

I really think the only way out of this is voluntary hyperinflation, coupled with a couple % tax increase all around. Pains me to say it, but I don't see any other possible way other than things that won't wash (like ending most entitlement programs/safety nets).

Leave the working people alone. End virtually all social programs and foreign aid.

Well...you know exactly what whining will ensue after ending those tax cuts, don't you? Companies will lay-off employees to offset the taxes....and unemployment will rise again....its all a fucking vicious circle/cycle.

A Consumption Tax would end this right quick....plus making GE pay fucking taxes. And end the Catholic Churches free fucking ride. It's about time WE fuck the church for a change....why should they have all the fun?

Right. Whatever. Raising the marginal rate by 3% will cause massive unemployment and layoffs, even though the 10 biggest corporations in America for the most part don't pay taxes anymore.

Dan, the people making over a quarter million dollars a year are NOT the "working people" - they are the ultra-rich. Rolling back their tax rate by three percent will barely affect these people at all - and since the vast majority of those people probably have a vested interest in the health of the economy (i.e. consumer spending and investment), giving a little back to the ever-dwindling middle class is nothing but a good idea.

Because things were so bad in the Clinton years, when you had a brilliant President and a Republican-dominated Congress that knew how to get things done the right way. They worked together very well.

You do realize the GOP laid down the shutdown ultimatum over the Planned Parenthood "issue," right? Their fingerprints are all over this pile of shit.

It's always Quid Pro Quo with these Congressional R2D-bags.....It can never be because it is just good for the country. Somebody always wants something.

Where were these guys three short years ago when Bush's second recession was in full swing and he was spending like a spoiled rich kid's daughter with her dad's no limit credit card at the Gap?

By the way, the global financial crisis of 2008 was NEGATIVE one years into Obama's Administration. The global economy - and America's - is MUCH better, if you didn't notice. Give the turncoat Obama some credit - he was handed a two-ton pile of elephant shit and told to turn it into shinola overnight.
