Saw this on Facebook. I paraphrased it a bit but the message is the same.

How many of you:
grew up on fried foods,
lived in a house covered with Lead Base paint,
road a bike with no helmet on gravel roads,
never saw a child proof lid,
didn't know what a seat belt was,
played smear the queer with no pads or helmets,
got whupped when you misbehaved,
had 3 TV channels you got up to change manually,
always started the school day with the Pledge of Allegiance,
didn't go to stores on Sunday because they were closed,
drank water out of the creek & a water hose,
and Still turned out OK?

I still contend that the best tasting fried food is cooked in lard. I remember this drive in burger joint I ate at as a kid. The french fries
lost their appeal when they switched to vegetable shortening to cook them in. They were the best in town before that, but everyone
started getting more health conscious.

I've tried to find a picture, but failed.....

Remember those popsicle things from Dairy Queen in the 70s? Where it was a tube of thin plastic with frozen popsicle inside, and you had to push it out with a straw from the base of the tube? I know I'm not crazy, but I've searched Wiki, and google....no mention...

Oh and don't forget the swing sets with the metal slides that would bake in the sun so we could burn our asses off sliding down them, and the metal chains on the swings that should have ripped our fingers off when we'd twist them up so we could spin until dizzy, lol.

It is funny, but once I had kids of my own I became much more aware of how pretty damn stupid a lot of things we did were, lol.

Push ups. They still have them but mostly sherbert flavored ones now.

Or don't forget my brother and sister and myself making our version of a slip n' slide with old pool vinyl lining and using concrete cinderblocks to hold down both sides of the slide. Banging into those on the way down wasn't pretty. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I think the tubes were paper/cardboard back in the day. Diamond Dave mentions them in "Ice Cream man".

We had this lake cabin with a loft above the living room. We'd take all the couch cushions off and put them on the floor then jump off and land on the cushions dive style. A million things could have gone wrong, but they didn't. :shock:

Mom would let my brother and I take off on our bikes with our sleeping bags rolled up and we'd ride off to the woods and go camping. I was 13 and my brother was 10.

We'd take mom's tennis ball cans and take the bottom out of a few of them, then tape
them together and make a cannon, using lighter fluid and matches to set it off.

The car seats back in the 70's were horrible too, I remember my brother (he's 4 yrs younger than me) being able to get out of his as a toddler, drove my parents nuts, lol. Once I had my first kid my dad loved the 5-point harness on my son's car seat, and said "We needed that for your brother, the little shit!" :lol:
