Save Daytime TV

I don't know how many here watch daytime tv but ABC had decided to cancel it's two long time running soaps All My Children and One Life to Live. I've been watching both since 1976 and it really is sad that after 40 + years these shows will come to an end soon. They want to replace them with more freakin' reality shows. Geesh like we need more....sorry for the rant here but if anyone feels inclined please sign the petitions to help save these two shows. We can't lose daytime tv but we can sure boycott ABC if they don't change their minds. Brian Frons of ABC SUCKS! (Andrew if this is not the venue for this please do remove this post.)

Agreed. I'm not sure what's worse ... reality shows full of mindless bullshit and really fucked up people, or soap operas with the exact same shit. Cancel both forms of televised sewage and put more sports on TV.

I think the reality shows are worse. At least the soap operas have some limited amount of thought put into the script and the technical side of things (camera setups, lighting, etc.). The reality shows don't even have that going for them--which is why they are so cheap to make.

I went into my Comcast 'On Demand' settings and counted the number of Reality shows VS. the number of Network shows....I realize every show isn't represented but it shouldn't matter because out of 117 shows On Demand.....only 27 weren't of the Reality kind....

I understand now why TV was always viewed as 'fantasy'...how everyone was always upper class(for the most part), and rather good looking.....cause now that reality has kicked in, and we are forced to take a good look at ourselves, and what's out there....I want to go back to fantasyland.....

It's simply a business decision. Why spend $1 Million (or much, much more in most cases) per episode on some sitcom/soap opera when you can make a reality show for a fraction of the cost. As a wild guess, I'd say you are close to a 10:1 ration for cost, if not more. It's probably closer to 20:1. Some networks (HGTV, for example) have made a living off this simple fact.

It is time for daytime soaps to kick the bucket. All soaps are is just the same old plot, no matter when you see it. The only thing that has changed is the characters. I admit I watched ABC soaps for one year... then quit. I got tired of it. And if I saw them now, I would know what was going on, because it would be the same ol', same ol'. I don't have any ideas on what would replace them, but there must be some programming that can take its place. (I am at home all the time, and I don't watch the soaps, or any of the big networks. I watch stuff that is on cable only.)

Another way to save them is to move them to a soap opera cable channel.

Who has the time to watch these dopey, miserably acted shows that are on during normal working hours? Only college kids and unemployed dopes have time to watch these.

Maybe this'll spur some people to get their hands out of the Unemployment Easter Basket and go look for a job.

Cancel, cancel, cancel!

DVR. And for another thing, not everyone works during "normal" hours.

You know, I don't watch those kind of shows anymore (yes I used to, in high school and for a short while after...) but is there any reason to make fun and put down people for doing it? It's just a form of random entertainment than some enjoy and some don't. Why tear people down over it? I'm sure a lot of us don't particularly get some of you guys who live and die by the NFL schedule or this game or that game, and spend every waking minute on march madness brackets, or the newest video game, or whatever else the hell... but we're not up in here calling people unemployed dopes. Who has time for it? People who want to do it, that's who. Who the hell has time for a lot of the stuff you all post about - I don't, because it's not of interest for me, so I ignore it. If you don't like it fine, but calling people names over it... come on, not cool.

I mean really... if they want to talk about shows being cancelled, let them. Does it make the boys club feel better to shit on literally eveything that's posted that doesn't fall within your liking?

100% AGREED. There are far worse and for more shiteous things on TV than Soapies. A little escapism...what's the harm. Sure they move slower than Steve Perry, but they have turned out some fine actors over the years.

Soap Operas don't really have a place in a television world dominated by stupid cheesy "reality" shows. Soaps are an antique leftover of a different generation.
