Saw him with Triumph quite a few times here back in the day..............but have never seen him solo. Magic Power still one of my all-time faves, good times, they were AMAZING live! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9X5Vbt4FYo

He played here in PHX a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't see his show because none of the usual suspects promoted his show nor did any of the radio stations (that I'm aware of). I actually ended up reading the review of his performance a couple of days later in one of the college weeklys. He seems to like to play tiny, intimate places for some reason - as long as that equates to him being more approachable and the sound is up close and personal, it's all good. The only time I saw Triumph live was back in '83 at the US Festival. And now that I think about it, that show was really cozy and intimate too. Just me and 500,000 of my closest friends! Now, THAT was a fucking concert!
Still love and frequently watch the vid of him and Steve Morse playing Midsumers Nightdream. Simply awesome guitar work there!

This version is just Rik on stage during a show in Halifax, Nova Scotia which was filmed for a concert video. Gotta love how animated he is in this one.

Is he still the managing editor of Guitar magazine? Anyone...? Andrew...?

A few videos from my show last year - a great Sunday afternoon performance...note the three different guitars Rik was using:

"Hold On" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1MAPZh5jkM

"Suitcase Blues" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Km4lIhX-LSM

"Out Of The Blue" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lE2wmsEYeL0

Rik had a great time at that show last year...and you can certainly tell that in his performances in those videos.

This is going to be a benefit performance with proceeds going to the Dallas Chapter of Flashes of Hope, a nonprofit organization that changes the way children with cancer and other life threatening illlnesses see themselves through the gift of photography and raises money for pediatric cancer research.

There were only 120 to begin with!

Look, Triumph is a nice, little Canadian pop rock band with a song or two, but who in the Hell is going to publicize a concert in a "Bar?" I am sorry, Don, you have always been a great poster and this is not a shot against you, but Hell, I could sell 150 tickets doing my horrible stand up routine. Rik Emmett, live, in a Bar near you? There is some merit to what Saint John harps on and I think it definitely has merit....if you are playing bars, as opposed to arenas that you used to play, it's time to collect social security. Canada has a very good retirement program. Good Jesus.

If he was playing a bar within 100 miles of here I'd be there.

He could go out with replacements as triumph and do fine on a multiple band bill.

Schon ain't gonna do an arena solo, but I'd pay big bucks to see him in a bar setting. You can put them out to pasture if you want, but send them here and we'd have a good time.

If you ask the 200+ people who attend Rik's shows in Dallas, they would all say the same thing...they love the opportunity to see such a talented musician in such an intimate venue. Rik really gets the opportunity to connect with his fans and his personality certainly shows on stage. The fans love the personal touch and the interaction they have at each and every show. In fact, my reserved meet-and-greet tickets sold out in three minutes. Rockindeano, I certainly understand what you are saying...there is certainly a lot of truth to that...it is even hard for me to believe that Jeff Scott Soto performed in a "bar" in Fort Worth a couple of years ago to only 70 or so people. Go figure.

And no, there were not 120 tickets to begin with...capacity is 250.

 Don't listen to him. Those 2 are missing out on some great talent if they are only chosing their music by whether they can play an arena or not. Kesha can play an arena, does that make her more talented than Rik Emmett.   Not in this life time.

I would love to see Rik Emmett in a "bar" near me. Some of THE very best shows I've seen in the last few years have been in small to midsize venues.

What an incredible show... Rik Emmett RULES, and is an incredible performer. Of course I went primarily to hear the Triumph hits, but this guy can play anything, and quite well! Rock, blues, jazz... he's simply a master of the instrument.

Special thanks to Don for his hospitality, and to another friend for offering me a free ticket to the event! Yes, I paid it forward by purchasing a reserved admission price's worth of raffle tickets benefiting Flashes of Hope, one of which got drawn to win me a very cool gift. As I went onstage to accept the gift, I took the opportunity to work in a cheap Dokken plug, and the subsequent applause confirmed that there were definitely a few Dokken fans in the audience. In the end, everything is really just about Dokken. :)

A few pics below (click on thumbs for full size), and some videos to come. :)

Rented out?!? What's your daily rate, and are there credits for early return?

I LMAO off when I read that earlier, " a little Canadian poprock band" ? Multi-million selliing little band. They were pretty big here back in the day. Saw them a few times LIVE, never dissappointed.....very talented trio. :) I looooved seeing them get their much deserved Hall Of Fame induction award right here in the 'Dome, from buddy Tom Cochrane no less. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLyZ4EFWCqc

Next to Mr Big, they're another band I'd love to see re-unite. Hey, never say never. :D

Don, you are the best, and next time I'm arriving in full force with as many as I can assemble. BTW, I looked up the YT poster that Rik mentioned, and contacted him to show him the video. He was thrilled, and wants to add it to his page. You should pass his account name back to Rik -- it's MrDanielHalen, and here is his channel:

Apparently they did in 2008, playing at least in Sweden and at Rocklohoma. Not sure it will happen again, though. Sounds like Rik would be open to it, but whether Gil actually wants to tour. That info came from a fan at the show btw, not from Rik.
