Ok, let's have the Genesis discussion. Do you prefer the theatrical Gabriel-led Genesis, with his Bowie-like costumes, and his weird-ass theatrics....or do you like the Phil Collins-led incarnation that started off proggy, but morphed into the pop-rock of Invisible Touch?

Why, or why not? Do more than vote.

I just had the records, never the visuals to sway my take on the music.

I had Lamb lies Down On Broadway, Selling England By The Pound, and would Jam along to those LP's as well as all the Bowie Ziggy Stardust / Space Oddity stuff, but never had visuals, Theatrics associated with it. I was a kid, that locked myself in my bedroom with my Turntable, and some reel to reels and guitars, didn't really watch Tv - I remember being shocked, when I saw Bowie a few years later on Tv in the Ziggy era after i knew the music so well.

Watching all the Peter Gabriel Genesis stuff now, feels a little silly visually, as i never had that association with the music... I definitely wasn't into Phil,(Except In the Air Tonight) or Mike and the Mechanics, or much of the early 80's anything (Except for Journey of course

I Liked an album from "Brand X" though don't remember which one it was.

I had to vote for Gabriel simply because most Invisible Touch made me want to urinate on myself...

Everything after Abacab except for a few songs made me cringe..

Phil Collins era for me easily. I tend to prefer something like Driving the Last Spike to Illegal Alien (or the like), but Phil Collins does pop as good as anyone out there. That said, I think some of the Collins-era material would have been better suited for Phil solo and not Genesis. There was some massive overlap there.

There was some good stuff in the Gabriel era, but some really strange stuff also.

I actually enjoyed the Ray Wilson cd, but I think it's pretty obvious that a lot of it was written for Phil Collins to sing, and Ray Wilson just isn't Phil Collins. A follow-up written for the strengths of Ray Wilson's voice might have been really good.

It's too bad you didn't do this differently...I love all the Collins albums up until Abacab....So if I could vote that way, I'd pick Collins.

Yeah but a great song and still related since it is Phil Good one Deb! Love that song. And brings back that scene in Miami Vice when Sonny and Tubbs are driving around at night while that plays

I like the Phil Collins Genesis better, and like Peter Gabriel's solo stuff. Lots of great songs from him too, In Your Eyes, Solsbury Hill, Red Rain, Don't Give Up, Blood Of Eden, etc..

My pick goes to Drum Phil, as his era was the stuff I grew up on.

However, when going to their early albums, my favorite ended up being Trick of the Tail. It has the progression & artistry of a Peter Gabriel-era album, but with Drum Phil singing, the voice I grew up on, it was sounded better in every aspect.

Gabriel era for me. Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is truly epic!!!

Yeah....I'll take this over Misunderstanding....

I love that band from "Foxtrot" through "...And Then There Were Three" with "Selling England by the Pound" and "Wind & Wuthering" being my favorites. Overall, though, I have to pick the Gabriel era. They went way too commercial in the 80s.
