Assessing the 2011 NFL Draft

News from the 2018 draft.

The Patriots now have 32 first round picks, and Coach Bill, entering his final draft before retirement, said " Our goal is to give my successor maximum flexibility and value next year. We have had a lot of interest in all the first round pick positions, and I can see us trading some or all of them to reach that goal. The notion that our failure to win a playoff game for the 10th year in a row is in any way connected to our draft strategy is nonsense".

What is the point of stockpiling picks if the team never packages them together to secure a high impact player? I could understand trading number 28 if the Patriots had few second or third round picks, but they already had a plethora. After round one did the Patriots improve themselves as much as the Jets and Steelers did? Two of their more competitive rivals. Okay, the Patriots need help on the O line with Mankins, Kazur, and Light all question marks. But are there defensive line prospects available in round two that match the quality of Wilkerson or Heyward? if not, the Patriots have hurt themselves and helped their rivals.
