Since I worked nights most of my career, this happened to me more times than I can count.
One night in particular, the call light in room 1 popped on-our CNA answered the call light then got up and left the desk so we assumed she was going into the room. A few minutes later she came back and was confused and said "I think the patient was talking in her sleep when she called out." We asked why and she said "she called out and asked for a sandwich, I went in and asked her if she wanted ham or turkey, she just looked at me funny so I asked again, 'ham or turkey'and she just asked me 'do you normally offer patient's sandwiches at 2 am." We thought that was strange too so I said "which patient was it?" She said "the one in room 11." My friend and I both started laughing SO hard we couldn't breathe...it was the patient in room one that asked for the sandwich but she went into room eleven, woke the patient up to ask her if she wanted a ham or turkey sandwich. Looking back on it now-yeah, it was funny but not nearly as funny as we thought it was at the time we were seriously on the floor with tears streaming down our face we were laughing so hard.
