My Daughter at Starbucks

Postby Memorex » Mon Jun 27, 2011 3:20 pm

This is my daughter singing Rolling in the Deep at Starbucks today. She did 6 songs total. She's been taking lessons for about 8 months. She's terribly shy, so I have no idea how she gets up in front of everyone. I'm very proud of her. Thought I'd share.

Wow! She's got a really unique and pretty voice. Musicians have a drive and a desire to perform that outweighs shyness somehow. I've played keys all my life and spent a couple decades playing in various cover bands to audiences from very small and intimate to some numbering in the thousands. And no matter how many times I had done it before, I would still get severe stage fright to the point of bordering on an all out anxiety attack every single time I/we were about to go on stage. However, no matter how nervous and shaking I would get, I still couldn't wait to get up there and start playing whether I was the lounge lizard in a piano bar performing alone or as part of a band. There is no place more comfortable and at-home for a musician than in front of an audience.
Arnel is the prefect example of this. He still gets butterflies right before show time every night. He's a very shy person, or at least he used to be. When he's not on stage he's very meek and humble and would never do anything to bring attention to himself yet, he hits the stage running -literally- and becomes this larger than life entity with a commanding presence and a aire of contentment.

Thanks for sharing the vid and kudos to your daughter!

Man that takes guts. She definitely needs to keep at it, she's got a great, strong voice and she will become more comfortable every time she sings in public. That's a tough song to sing, and she did a great job on it.

Beautiful young lady you have there Memorex. You must be very proud.

Man, that was great! I sensed a lot of shyness in the opening notes, but as the song went on and she settled in ... she absolutely nailed it! That was a very good performance. Excellent voice control. 8)

She did a great job! I don't see that as an easy song at all, and I think she did awesome! To me, she gave it her own sound too, not like a karaoke kind of thing or anything! So cool she has a place like Starbucks, where she can get out there and practice! It'll build her confidence too, the more she sings in front of people this way. I know it's so great when we get to watch our kids find their talents and just blossom!! You have to be really proud!!

Your daughter is a beautiful young lady with a good voice. I hope she keeps up her voice lessons because she sounds great and has lots of potential. The more she sings the better she'll get. It's funny how many singers, musicians, actors & comedians describe themselves as very shy. It's almost like they become another person when they perform.

That's the draw. They like becoming another person. Most entertainers, of all disciplines, are not comfortable with themselves. They like becoming someone else. They like the attention they get when the do what they do...because they do(did) not get it in their other life...
