Just curious to see what you guys think. I'm an old school video game fan and i was just wondering what you guys like as well.

So what was your favorite old school system?

As far as overall quantity of excellent games, my pick goes to the Nintendo NES.

But lately I've been dabbling in Atari 2600. It was before my time but I've discovered that simplicity has more appeal when I don't have time to game for hours on end.

I think my favorite old-school system would have to be the Nintendo 64. They had a shit load of awesome, ground breaking games at the time. Donkey Kong Country, Mario 64, awesome Star Wars games, etc... Oh yeah, and Mortal Kombat was amazing on the system too. GREAT games back then!

Loved Sega the most. When I was growing up, it was kind of pushing Nintendo out of the way but I loved Nintendo as well. Gotta give Sega the slight nod.

Amiga 500. I was never a C-64 fan but when the A500 came out, It was a gamer's dream. I still paly games from that system but now i use an emulator.

No, I've never tried to be one of those people who have to find every single item in a game. Just like Grand Theft Auto with all of the stars... Ehh. I just like to play through the game and finish it. Nowadays I rarely even finish games. I can't tell you how many hours I've logged on Call Of Duty Black Ops, yet I probably only finished 30% of the campaign. On those games, I stick with the multiplayer. This has been a pretty boring year for me release-wise. I'm looking forward to this fall when all the great games come out.

I had an Atari 2600 back in the 1980's. Used to play Defender for hours on end. Those joystick controllers predated "ergonomic design." We would get "Atari wrist" from using those controllers too much.

Played some Nintendo in college - mostly Super Tecmo Bowl and Streetfighter 2. Then there was Sega Genesis. That's where it ended with me.

all me and a friend do in GTA4 is cheat up and go on killing sprees and see who can have the most glorious death.

i've owned each gaming system in my time and usually it was a step forward. although the atart 2600 sold out on pacmac. (shudder).

i am now looking for emulators for all these that i can put on my pc tied to my computer so i can play all the fun games in 50" plasma glory.

Commodore 64, mostly because I LOVED Bumpin' Buggies, to the point of having my Dad literally pull the plug out of the wall on more than one occasion to get me to stop.

We still have a Nintendo 64. My son plays it all the time. His favorite game is Zelda - Majora's mask.

That's the only Zelda I have never played. I borrowed an N64 from my son's mother about 6 years ago. It came with Mario 64. I got to play Ocarina of Time on my Gamecube(at the time)....tried to buy Majora's Mask at gamestop(it is a gold cartridge). Dude at the desk asked me if I had one of those red memory things that one needs to play MM. I said no. He said my game would be useless. I have since been unable to find one at any Gamestop/EB in my area....and the ones on eBay are outlandishly expensive....there was also a promotional CD that game with a Gamecube bundle in 2002 or '03 that included 4 Zelda games. I'm not sure if Majora's Mask was one of the games on it. I do know, however, that those CDs were never meant to be sold seperately....and wouldn't you know it - Best Buy was selling them for around $50 a piece...

Had the same problem after awhile. I later discovered the Genesis controller was oddly compatable with the Atari 2600. I've never looked back...I especially like the Atari more from a retro perspective because of all the rare games and recently discovered prototypes that have the same fun factor as the common games of the day. A shame the video game crash happened...after playing some of the prototypes on emulation I discovered that their peak of greatness was on the horizon and it never came to be.

One of my favorite arcade games...my record was level 255. Using a little known trick where the enemies never dropped bombs on me. Awesome stuff...

That game might be my favorite ever. I just fucking hated the hammer throw. man, as a kid, that was frustrating and took a long time for me to figure out. I also used to play the fuck out of Atari 2600's Decathlon. In fact, I have one.
